Terrible Puns, Artfully Knitted

It is January 17th and I have made zero progress on my new year’s resolutions, I just haven’t got around to it.

I have not re-made the towels that I embroidered badly and wanted to unpick. I have not finished the second cushion from my set, even though it’s almost done and will only take an afternoon. I have not taken my sewing machine to the repair shop despite it’s having been kerput for nearly 2 months. I have not even started the hat I promised my boy, even though the supplies are stashed under my bed (and have been for a year)…

I just haven’t got a round to it.

She’s planning to stock them in her Etsy store so that we can all get a round tuit, stop waiting or procrastinating and get on; To Do Lists at the ready, let’s (finally) tick some stuff off.

Unicorn Poop Cookies

Unicorn Poop cookies

I tried to think of a clever title for this post, but really – why bother? They’re UNICORN. POOP. COOKIES. As soon as I saw them in a recent GeekChicDaily newsletter, I had to run right over here and share them. Then of course, I discovered teh Internets have already shared them just about everywhere, including i09, geekologie, GeeksAreSexy, The Mary Sue, and Laughing Squid. OK, so a scoop of geek-crafty news, this is not. A scoop of poop, however, it is. Sparkly, tasty poop.

Instructable-r KristyLynn put together a tutorial for creating your own steaming pile of unicorn poop…cookies, right in your own home.  According to her, the “poop” is made of sugar cookies, rainbow dragees, rainbow star sprinkles, white sparkle gel, and rainbow disco dust, but I think we GeekCrafters know it’s really made of rainbows, Lucky Charms, and fairy dust. Or perhaps you have a more imaginative ingredients list?

Also, while you eat your “mythically delicious” baked goods, you might want to wear this Unicorn Poop t-shirt from NeatoShop:

Tetris Table

Today I want to show you this amazing Tetris Side Table made by Annahowardshaw from Instructables.

The whole table is made from scratch and we are given the complete tutorial so you can create your own piece of retro geek furniture. The Tetris pieces are made from wooden cubes stuck together, sanded and painted. They are then glued on to the table after arranging them carefully.

A geweldig Hedwig cake!

The blog Cake Wrecks took a break from their usual posting of grief-and-trauma-in-fondant-form to post some pretty amazing cakes with birds.  You’ll find several geek-themed cakes in this collection, but I had to post this adorable homage to Hedwig. I can’t imagine cutting into this masterpiece: the detail in the chocolate wand, the academic disciplines written along the book spines, Hedwig’s sweet, loving little face… all sorts of squee.

Sadly, I can’t say very much about the contents of the cake since the original submission appears to come from a Dutch website, and my Dutch is limited to the understanding that mayonnaise is superior to ketchup when it comes to the ultimate french fry condiment.  I may have seen something about marzipan in here, but that was never really a mystery. If any Dutch friends are reading this blog and can help with translation in the comments, that would be super mooi.

Language difficulties aside, I thought this taart was entirely too geweldig not to share!

Vegetables you will eat!

Being a mother of 2 geeklings is no easy task. Not only do I have to make sure that they are well rounded by watching the required amounts of Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, but I also have to get them to eat their vegetables. Now granted, I don’t have any problems getting them to curl up with me for another round of Harry with popcorn, but getting them to eat a balanced meal can be very challenging!

Jill at Kitchen Fun With My 3 Sons has a great solution for all of Geek Moms who face this problem. She helped her kids play with their food and create a lunch sure to tempt any hungry, little padawan.

As much as my kids love Star Wars, I don’t think I’d ever have a problem with them chomping down on a Chewbacca dog, or a Yodalicious salad. They can even play Mash the StormTrooper potatoes. Heck, I think I would have just as much fun as my kids eating this meal!
