Game of Thrones Cookbook

I don’t know about you, but I love having friends over and cooking up something delicious… I just do.  I discovered that some of my husband’s co-workers are big Game of Thrones fans (as am I), so I invited them over and scoured the internet for Game of Thrones inspired recipes. I came across this website, Inn at the Crossroads, that has loads of recipes all based on foods mentioned in the actual book series (i.e. lemon cakes, Sansa salad, beef and barley stew).  They recently published the official Game of Thrones cookbook, A Feast of Ice & Fire.   I don’t have it yet, but I kind of want it because who doesn’t like to eat some medieval-inspired grub every now and then?

Game of Thrones Leather Journals

game of thrones leather journals

With the second season of Game of Thrones wrapping up, I thought it would be appropriate to share these gorgeous Game of Thrones leather journals by TaeliacStudio.

My husband and I watched the first season last year, but got rid of cable earlier this year, so we’re waiting for the second season to come out on DVD. (Please – no spoilers!) Based on the first season, I’d say my favorite house is Stark, followed closely by Targaryen, if only for the strong character of Daenerys. Though of the journals above, I think I like the Lannister one the best – it reads, “Hear Me Roar” on the cover.

And you? Which house has your loyalty? Or which journal would you pick?

30 Days of Nerdy Hair

Lagertha nerdy hair by Liz Tailor

Ever look in the mirror and wonder, “How can I make my hair nerdier?” Liz Tailor did, so she started a series of posts called, “30 Days of Nerdy Hair.”

“One day I was reading Shape magazine (a rather non-nerdy publication) and I read about a 30 day hair challenge where the author of the article tried a new hairstyle every day for 30 days,” she writes. “And I thought to myself, ‘Liz, you are terrible at doing your own hair! You should try this.’ And of course I had to find a nerdy way to do it!! So 30 Days of Nerdy Hair was born.”

Since back in 2012, she has been taking cues from movies, tv shows, video game characters and music videos, and recreating hairstyles herself at home. Inspiration has come from such varied sources as “Tomb Raider,” “Indiana Jones,” “Saved by the Bell,” Secretary Barbie, “Game of Thrones,” “Once Upon a Time,” and “Star Trek,” just to name a few. Featured above is Lagertha from the TV show, “Vikings.”

She’s currently in the middle of a new series of posts so be sure to hop over and check it out!

Whose nerdy hair do you admire and covet? Share in the comments below!

DIY Comic Book Collage Silhouettes

Comic book silhouette collage by The Nifty Nerd

With so many great TV shows and movies out, there’s a lot of attention on comic books these days. It’s always nice to go back to the source material for the full backstory. While you’ve got your comics out, you might want to use some of the extras for this cool collage project, brought to us by Jessica from The Nifty Nerd.

Jessica has kindly put together a Nerdy Craft Tutorial on how she created her striking silhouette collages to adorn her hallway, including cutouts from Spiderman, plus a really cool Rohan horse banner crafted from Fellowship of the Ring book pages – you won’t want to miss that!

She also talked about other cutout backgrounds, like the Hogwarts houses, or Game of Thrones family crests. What fandom would you like to collage? I have a TARDIS in mind, from Doctor Who comic book pages…

Gift A Geek: Tea! Just What The Doctor Ordered

Tea! That’s all I needed. A good cup of tea. A superheated infusion of free radicals and tannin. Just the thing for heating the synapses.

15eb_doctor_who_tardis_tea_infuserDid you think I had a different Doctor in mind? I mean there are 12 to choose from.

The Tardis Tea Infuser is available at Think Geek  But to get to the actual Tea. We have so many choices. Like tea itself wasn’t geeky enough there are fandom blends to make you happy.

Fandom Blend Tea Sets from Adagio Tea  Firefly, Teen Wolf, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who…pick a sampler blend for $19. If there’s a fandom or three you want to try/gift.

Tea and Absinthe   Doctor Who teas and Tea, Earl Grey Hot.  They also have a few tea accessories.

Tea and Other Things – Butterbeer and Chocolate Frog flavored tea need I say more?

And of course you will need something to make this tea in:

I feel like there is a degree of Serenity placing those words on a teapot.

And One would be remiss to not provide something to drink the tea from. I pity the fool without a tea mug.

Build the geekest tea set you can, and go off and spread tea among the masses.  All of the shops linked above, have a few other choices for mug, for pot, for infuser, and of course for Tea.

Scott Pilgrim craft: Ramona Flowers hammer

Ramona Flowers hammer by Mia Moore

At the cons I have attended, I see a ton of creative cosplay (people dressed up in costumes representing characters from books, movies, TV, manga, etc.). I can pretty safely guarantee I’ll see a variety of fandoms represented – almost always Star Trek, Star Wars, and Doctor Who. I always enjoy seeing other characters, however, and recognizing their references. Makes me feel a little self-righteous in my geekhood.

That’s why I was tickled to recently find this tutorial on a Ramona Flowers cosplay, from the graphic novel series, video game and movie, Scott Pilgrim. We have enjoyed watching the movie several times at our house, and my daughter has read the books. Mia did a great job breaking down the steps to creating the iconic hammer in her tutorial, right down to the bell on the end of the handle – great attention to detail! She also gives tips on how she was able to travel by plane with the hammer!

Be sure to check out other examples of Mia’s cosplay wizardry – such as Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones, Fiona from Adventure Time, and Female Engineer from Team Fortress 2.
