A Trio of Customized Baby Onsies

Tonight is a first for me…I’m actually posting one of my own crafts here!

A friend of mine, Brandon, and his wife recently had a baby boy. By recently, I mean about three months ago. I’m a little late with the baby gift, but I finally finished it tonight.

Brandon is wild about the Punisher like I am for Spider-Man. As soon as I found out they had a baby boy, I knew I had to make a couple of Punisher-themed onesies. Oh hell, who am I kidding? If they’d had a little girl, I would have made them with pink skulls…and maybe one with a bow.

A Little Bit of Summertime Cosplay

I love the amount of work and care that goes into a good cosplayer’s costume, even more so when it’s genderbending the original character. There’s a lot of stuff to be taken into consideration when you’re turning Tonto, for example, into a female.

“Baker Jenny Rae of Lil Rae Cupcakes is a huge Johnny Depp fan who has an impressive collection of handmade aprons that she wears at her shop. When she saw Depp as Tonto in the upcoming The Lone Ranger film, she decided to make an apron in his honor, but went a step further and even made a headpiece and donned his makeup.” BTW, Jenny Rae mentioned on her FB page, linked above, that she’s going to see “The Lone Ranger” on the Disney lot in Burbank. Pretty cool!

Oh My Glob!

I was a little late to the party to get hooked on “Adventure Time,” but I’m with it now and loving these AT cosplays. (For those of you unfamiliar with AT, “…(originally titled Adventure Time with Finn & Jake[2]) is an American animated television series created by Pendleton Ward for Cartoon Network. The series follows the adventures of Finn (voiced by Jeremy Shada), a human boy, and his best friend and adoptive brother Jake (voiced by John DiMaggio), a dog with magical powers to change shape and grow and shrink at will. Finn and Jake live in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo. Along the way, they interact with the other main characters of the show: Princess Bubblegum (voiced by Hynden Walch), The Ice King (voiced by Tom Kenny), and Marceline the Vampire Queen (voiced by Olivia Olson).”

First up, we have Marceline the Vampire Queen, Fiona the Human, and Princess Bubblegum of the Candy Kingdom.

Next up, we have Simon in his pre-Ice King days and a young Marceline. “This fantastic Adventure Time cosplay gives us Marceline and the Ice King as Marcy and Simon. It’s a sweetly done bit of costuming by Twinzik Cosplay that looks deceptively simple but includes lots of great details. Not only are their clothes perfect, but the makeup and facial prosthetics are spot on and very well done. Photography courtesy of Mineralblu.” Young Marcy here is actually the cousin to Simon in this series. Be sure and check out the link above to see all their shots. Terribly sweet stuff!

And even though it’s not a cosplay photo, I wanted to include this painting of Simon and Marcy, just because it goes along so well with the Twinzik Cosplay image above.

kprovido at Deviant Art painted this on an 11″x14″ canvas, aaaaaaaaaaaand it might actually go up for sale!!!

Introducing Beth Lynn!

bethlynnHello all!  I figured that since I’m brand new here, I may as well introduce myself!  (And introduce one of my most favorite projects, as well.)  I’ll be posting every Sunday afternoon, sharing my favorite geeky crafts from around the Internet!

As you may already have noticed, my name’s Beth Lynn.  I live with my husband Bryan, as well as four betta fish and a ridiculous collection of My Little Ponies, in beautiful Bloomington, Indiana.  I’m working on a second masters degree, in Information Science, and when I’m not nose deep in homework, I’m doing some sort of awesome geeky craft project!  I’ve been geeky as long as I can remember – I was an early reader (my mom claims I started reading before I was 2!), I’ve been playing video games since the tender age of five, and my mom was a Trekkie, so I’ve always been surrounded by wonderful nerdy things.  I’ve also been crafting since I was tiny, making tiny puppets when I was 8 and making doll clothes when I was 12.  As I got older, I started making bigger projects, like blankets, stuffed animals, and costumes!

Sheldon Cooper Amigurumi Pattern

sheldon cooper amigurumi

Bazinga!

It’s your favourite physics geek, Sheldon Cooper, made into this adorable crochet doll by Jackie on A[mi]dorable Crochet! And there’s a free pattern for him! Squee!

AND… he’s even approved by none other than Jim Parsons, the actor who plays Sheldon in the Big Bang Theory!

There is also a Howard Wallowitz doll made by the same person! There’s no pattern, though, but I’m pretty sure the doll is the same as the Sheldon doll with different clothes/accessories! Hopefully she’ll soon make the whole BBT gang!

Introducing Marsha

Hey all, I will be your regular Friday morning blogger so I thought I would throw a bit of introduction at you first. I am a long time crafter, currently focused on knitting, spinning, and bead working to name a few things that I get my own crafty hands busy with.  So I’m sure geeky knits will be prominent.

I tend to roam the internet as One Geek to Craft Them All, so that should point out at least one geeky place that is precious to me. I’m a fan of comics, fantasy, mythology, magic, cosplay, and plenty of others. To be more specific things that own a place in my heart, include but are not limited to, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Harry Dresden, Game of Thrones, Star Trek, Supernatural, Harry Potter; you know the basics. The list goes ever on.

In my day to day life I put my Master’s in Industrial/Organizational Psychology to use as Research Associate at a management consultant firm.  I can feel your eyes glazing over from here so I’m gonna stop there. It’s for the best really. My closest friends only vaguely understand what I do. I like statistics, I play with them for a living, is close enough, really.

I’ll see everyone bright an early on  Friday and until then I leave you with a handmade Tardis dress I have been trying to talk myself out of buying by Lex from  Smarmy Clothes.

Marsha can usually be found, roaming twitter as @1geek2craftall or blogging at One Geek To Craft Them All. She thinks cheaters never prosper, unless it’s the Kobayashi Maru. Then cheat like there’s no other way to win.
