Tutorial Tuesday – Weeping Angel Cosplay!!

I know, I know, poor readers, I keep bombarding you with scary, scary angels.

The truth is I’m SO excited about the new series of DW coming soon… I seem to have developed a bit of an obsession…

This cosplay has been on the Internet for a while but I completely missed it the first time round and recently re-discovered it after reading the blog post about  10littlebullets‘ awesome interpretation of this weeping angel cosplay.

The original version (pictured, right) was created and conceived by penwiper337 who has created an amazingly detailed tutorial which you can see on the crafty tardis livejournal group here

Look carefully at that photo, yup, that’s a weeping angel strangling Jewel Staite!! (there’s a whole lotta AWESOME in that picture!)-  (c) Ray Radlein

Weeping Angel Statue (with Tutorial!)

I’m a massive Dr Who fan. I love the old stuff, but I’ve got to say, hands down, the weeping angels are the best villains from the newer series’.

Craftster user Fayeven has really blown my mind this week by taking an old unwanted Barbie doll and converting it into a super creepy weeping angel statuette.

I don’t know about you, I’d LOVE to have one of these in my house, but I’d also be kinda afraid too, luckily Fayeven has reassured us:

“… do not worry for me who fans, I am placing a mirror directly opposite her so she will be trapped.”

Good thinking Fayeven!

Anyone like me considering re-purposing their old Barbies is in luck, as Fayeven has shared a tutorial on how you can make your own Creepy Weeping Angel Doll over on her blog and on Craftster.

Weeping Angels Cross Stitch

The Weeping Angels are by far the scariest Doctor Who monster. Worse than the Daleks, worse than the Cybermen. And bunnystuffs managed to capture the creepyness. She posted this over at Crafty_Tardis, and sent it to a show in the UK. Her Weeping Angel is amazingly detailed, and the words glow in the dark. I’ve done cross stitch before, and I just don’t have the patience for something like this. The red highlights are perfect (because the angels just aren’t scary enough).I’m not sure I’d want this in the house though…one night you look up and the angel isn’t covering her face anymore…

Did you ever wonder what the Doctor’s closet might look like?

148681_15Apr15_P1060720

SheepBlue, a craftster from Ann Arbor, MI, decided to craft up a tiny version of the Doctor’s very own closet.

She repurposed a simple wood box from Michael’s, and gave it an uneven Tardis blue staining. In the closet, SheepBlue included a spare spare key, emergency party bananas, a copy of Summer Falls and An Angel’s Kiss, *gasp* TWO Weeping Angel children (how did they get there! Don’t blink!), River Song’s party heels, a tropical umbrella (you never know when you’re going to need festively bright umbrella), a portrait of River Song, Vincent’s hat, the Doctor’s fez, an extra Christmas tree decoration, an extra psychic paper book, a copy of the Don’t Blink tapes on disc, oh, and a sword. Because the Doctor might need a sword someday…for some reason…

Be sure to take a look through the posting over at Craftster to see everything included in the Doctor’s closet.

A Selection of Timey Wimey Gifty Goodness

tardis bookshelf

Even though Christmas is over, there’s been a glut of really cool Doctor Who-inspired gifts all over the internet. They’re too cool to pass up, so here’s a quick rundown of some of the best ones I’ve seen. First up, the homemade TARDIS bookshelf. There’s an entire photo album online at Imgur, showing details like the hidden compartments. It was built by the poster’s boyfriend for Christmas.

Next up, a TARDIS quilt, also courtesy of Imgur!

If you check out the online album of this, you’ll see the poster, jgcox00’s new timey “wifey” (seewhutidid there? har har har, made myself laugh), even took the time to outline weeping angels in the TARDIS window stitching!

Last up, the same poster even got an understated TARDIS duffle bag.

tardis duffle

On the outside, it looks like a very nice blue patchwork duffle. However, start looking inside the pockets and inside the bag, and everything is lined with a different kind of Doctor Who fabric, with some very nice detail work.

Get Your Last-Minute Geek On with Christmas Printables

Happy Who-lidays TARDIS Christmas card by Natalie Shaw at Doodlecraft

The countdown to Christmas is down to single digits now – are you ready? I still have some wrapping to do, so of course I turned to the Internets for some ideas. And they did not disappoint. Here are several options for adding some geek flair to your gift wrapping.

First up is a series of Doctor Who-inspired printable holiday cards (like the one pictured above) by Natalie Shaw at Doodlecraft. (You may remember her Doctor Who Holiday Countdown I recently linked to.) Well, she has even more Doctor Who craft ideas up her sleeve! She created A2 card size (1/4 of a sheet) images featuring Daleks, Judoon, Weeping Angels, the Silence, and Cybermen. Hey, even villains celebrate holidays!

Minecraft gift tags by Ellie Petrov

Next up, Ellie Petrov designed some Minecraft gift tags and graciously shared them. She offers a PDF of Minecraft Santa tags, and one of Minecraft snowmen.

Doctor Who printable gift tags from Being Geek Chic

Liz over at Being Geek Chic also has some Doctor Who-inspired printable wrapping options – both gift tags and wrapping paper.

Have you found any other geeky wrapping options? How are you planning to add geek flair to your holidays?
