Tutorial Tuesday! Monster “Ninni” plush and pattern

On February 25, 2009 blog and shop, RevoluzZza published a tutorial for a simple monster plush.  (S)he is called Ninni, isn’t (s)he adorable? ok, yea, but here’s what really makes it a Geekcraft.

Ninni is open source! Since the tutorial was published in 2009 over a hundred people have contributed their own interpretations of Ninni in the RevoluzZza Flikr Pool. I love it when the internet helps spread creativity like that!

Here’s another cool thing that’s happening in the evolution of Ninni. Craftster users Susanab and Leslieshappyheart are currently organising a Ninni swap! In this swap, Craftsters are being challenged to reinterpret the Ninni pattern to suit their partner. Another way that the internet is using the Ninni pattern to breed creativity on an international level.

Creativity is awesome. Ninni is awesome. The internet is awesome.

Paper Dolls by Breeyn McCarney and Christopher Lewis

LED-paper-dressI really love when something simple becomes something outrageous and astonishing–like Paper Dolls, the project by best friend pair Breeyn McCarney and Christopher Lewis. Breeyn took paper crafting to a wholly different building (forget a new level!) making these gorgeous, hand cut paper dresses. Then, because that wasn’t awesome enough, Chris rigged these babies up with LED lighting, and remote controls!

Now, all of that is pretty amazing, but stand by for the REALLY cool part. Tomorrow at 9pm EST, Bree and Chris will be on the web show Nat and Marie, showcasing these amazing dresses, and you (yes, YOU) can interact with the dresses from your browser or smart phone! High fashion, high tech, social networking…is there anything they can’t do?

So be sure to catch Paper Dolls on Nat and Marie tomorrow at 9pm EST, and watch Geek Crafts next week for the follow up interview with Breeyn and Chris! While you wait for the show, you absolutely MUST watch this video.

Pac-Man Pillow

Pac-Man PillowTattooed, crafty mama Brooke (a.k.a. talking trash & wasting time on Flickr), sewed up this one-of-kind Pac-Love pillow for a Pac-Man loving friend.

Not only does it show the Pac-Couple in their pellet-munching glory, it has some sweet personal touches, like the player’s nickname in the left corner.

I think my favorite part of this, though, is the little trail of heart sequins leading Ms. Pac-Man to her Mister. Too sweet!

Reader Submission! Dr Who Pixel Art Magnets!

Today’s reader submisssion comes from Etsy seller Donna Aka Arcade Artist:

“Hi there,
I love your site and thought you might like to see my new Doctor Who 8-bit characters, these are custom sprites entirely made by me as if they were in an 80’s video game.

Firstly The Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond and the Tardis and then each Monday after the previous weekend’s Doctor Who has aired I will be making the new Monster/Alien.

Hope you like ’em :) “

Wow Donna! What a challenge! and so far so good, she’s made The Silence and The Siren from the current series. Go to her shop regularly to check back on new creations!

I think whole concept is really unique and interesting, I love pixel art, I love Dr Who, I love cute things! This ticks a lot of boxes! Speaking of cute, check out her pikmin magnets! (anyone else hoping for a exciting, inventive new pikmin title on the upcoming next gen Nintendo console?)
