Your Slip Is Showing

Okay, so you definitely couldn’t wear this Blood n Stitches zombie slip dress every day, but it’d make a great costume. You could probably whip one up quite easily yourself, if you’re so inclined. Also, how entertaining would it be if you just wore it around the house? You know, to the laundry room and to answer the door when the UPS guy comes and such…. Maybe it’s perverse, but I feel like that’d be highly amusing.

A Clockwork Earring

I have a confession: I really don’t do steampunk. I don’t know why—I think it’s visually appealing, reminds me of Jules Verne and Firefly (both good things), and I get the rationale…I guess it’s just not for me. Maybe it doesn’t quite fit in with my overall personal style, which otherwise seems to encompass a helluva lot. Even with that disclaimer, I wouldn’t mind adding one of these babies to my jewelry collection. In fact, I like quite a few of the wearable geegaws and doodads in Jynx’s Box—they clearly convey the steampunk aesthetic (steampunkery? steampunkness?) without being so over-the-top that you couldn’t wear them without looking costumey.

Girly Gone Geek: Batman Princess, plus Star Wars Princess

Though we’re months away from Halloween, what’s Valentine’s Day without a little sweetness?  Behold, the Batman Princess.

Batman Princess

As spotted on Comics Alliance, this post comes from Donkey’s tumblr page. Alas, with no commentary. I would love to know the backstory behind the costume, and the neighbors’ reactions.

Donkey’s tumblr page also links to her flickr album, where I found this little beauty – not quite Princess Leia, but a Star Wars princess, nonetheless.

I love how the little girl is allowed to embrace both her geeky and girly selves. How have you helped young girls feel empowered about their love of geeky things?

Red Shirt Syndrome!

Being active myself in historical reenactment for many years, the colder months were often spent at the sewing machine prepping for the upcoming events throughout the year. The same can be said for people who love attending Cons. Their creativity and ingenuity forever astounds me!

Working roughly off of a pattern and adapting on the fly, graverobbergirl on Craftster has made a great version of the original Star Trek costume! Even the hair and accessories show her dedication and attention to detail that are sure to make her stand out in the Con Crowd.

What makes graverobbergirl’s costume extra special is that she has planned for the inevitable. She has a patch to sew onto her costume when she finally (and inescapably) gets hit by the phaser aimed for a commanding officer!
