Tutorial Tuesday: Edward Scissorhands Costume!

Instructables are running a halloween competition, time’s almost up to submit entries, but you should completely go there and look at the awesome work that’s already been submitted.

I love Caraslifka’s children’s Edward Scissorhands costume and tutorial… but hats off to her son for really bringing the costume to life.

Quick and Practical Costume

Today is the big day (Halloween) so I am sure you have all got your costumes sorted for tonight.

If not, then don’t panic. Help is here in the form of  NoFiller from Instructables. She has made a quick and easy tutorial on how to make a practical and warm costume for a superhero, so no need to freeze to death in all that lycra.

She even includes a colour chart for different superheroes which is quite fun to play guess the super hero with.

Happy Halloween Geeks!

Gearing up for a shiny Halloween with Firefly costumes

Just over 3 weeks until Halloween (at the time of this posting) – do you know what your  (or your kids’) Halloween costume will be?

Browncoats Prom - Firefly-inspired Duct Tape costumes In case you’re still in the “seeking Divine inspiration” phase, let me point you to this very divine Firefly costume set. MADE. WITH. DUCT. TAPE. I saw this post first on MyDisguises.com, but it looks like the conversation started over on FireflyFans.net. Toledo392 posted there, requesting votes for his entry into Duck Brand’s “Stuck at the Prom” contest. He wrote:

“In this contest, high school students from all over the country create prom outfits using duct tape. Ten finalists are selected from all of the entries, and online voting determines the winner. To demonstrate my devotion to Firefly, I created my duct tape ensemble inspired by Mal’s tux and Kaylee’s dress from Shindig. These outfits made it into the top ten.

I used over 20 rolls of duct tape, and had to overcome laws of physics (all those ruffles are heavy!) as well as wear the outfit in Phoenix summer temperatures exceeding 107 degrees.”

Very impressive, and indeed – very shiny.

Bellatrix Lestrange Costume

Check out this hyper-movie- accurate Bellatrix costume made by Burdastlyle user and blogger Cation Designs.

Aside from looking… well… amazing there are a few other awesome things about this project and this crafter that makes me love it even more:

  1. She’s a science teacher!
  2. The corset was made from thrifted leather pants (yeyy for recycling!!)
  3. In a post about Harry Potter she mentions Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.

UPDATE: Cindy from Cation Designs has just updated her blog with a tutorial on how you can make your own Bellatrix corset. You can see the tutorial here.

Padme and Leia Barbie Costumes.

STOP THE PRESSES!!!

A whole cartload of AWESOME was just unloaded over at Burdastyle. I have seen some AWFUL barbie costumes in my time, and to be fair, most of them are made my small children so I shouldn’t be so judgemental. But I am.

These are the things that Star Wars Barbie dreams are made of.

Burdastyle community member Morgan (lanternwaste33) has uploaded her stash of Padme Amidala and Princess Leia Barbie costumes.

The accuracy, detail and craftsmanship are certainly worth a look!

(Not to mention the pretty pretty dresses *fangirl squee*)

If you’ve got a chance you should also check out Morgan’s studio on Burdastyle She and her sister Allison have made some awesome people sized Star Wars Costumes too.
