Zombie Potato

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=312150.msg3587001#msg3587001

Anthropomorphic food amuses me to no end, and this zombie potato from Craftster Kitty Ballistic is no exception. Sewn of felt with embroidered details, she says,

“Nathan is a bit of an outcast amongst his spuddy pals. They’re not really worried that he’s going to eat their brains on account of the fact that A) he doesn’t have a mouth and B) they’re tubers, they don’t have brains. They don’t even mind his unusual skin tone, although there have been rumours that his ‘scar’ was drawn on with felt tipped pen. Nathan ignores their comments, he knows his moment in the spotlight will come. He’s just waiting for his big break – a starring role in “Dawn of the Vegetable Rack”.”

Yes, a zombie potato named Nathan. I love this. Kitty also makes mere mortal potatoes, in case you’re not into the current zombie craze.

Ron Weasley Doll

Ron Weasley Doll

We are currently all Harry Potter all the time in our house. In the past couple of months, we’ve watched all five movies so we’d be ready for #6, and my little guy and I have been reading the first book, a chapter a night. Now he’s watching Potter Puppet Pals on YouTube, probably completely inappropriate, but very funny. Funny and awesome craftiness. But he just asked me the question I always love and dread at the same time – can I make him a Harry Potter puppet? Love because he thinks I can make anything and dread because half the time it’s beyond my crafting abilities. Any other crafty moms have that problem?

Anyway, all this to say that I took a spin through Etsy to see if anyone else is making Harry Potter puppets right now and found these very sweet dolls, including Ron Weasley,  by GirlCalledRic. I love the little Gryffindor necktie! More Potter characters, Star Trek and some super heroes in her Etsy shop.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Cake

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Cake

I continue to be amazed at the creativity and detail in cake decorating. Geek Craft reader Laurel Taylor made this amazing (yes, it’s so amazing I keep saying amazing) 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea cake for her son.

“My son’s favorite movie is 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, so when he asked for a submarine cake for his 5th birthday, he didn’t want just any plain submarine… he has no idea how spoiled he is that mommy can decorate cakes!”

Spoiled and lucky!
