Come to the Dark Side, O Christmas Tree

Death Star Tree Topper

With Christmas just days away, my brain is still in decorate mode. And believe me, if we didn’t already have a pretty star for the top of our tree, I would be madly scrambling to whip this Death Star Tree Topper together for our celebration.

Meg at Offbeat Home has graciously provided a tutorial for said tree topper, so you can add a bit of the Dark Side to your tree as well. Looks like a quick and easy project!

May the Force be with your Christmas!

DIY free clock upgrade

DIY free clock upgradeIt was a week full of projects in my home, and I thought I should share one with you all!   When I moved into my apartment over the summer, I purchased two cheap-o $4 wall clocks with the intention of upgrading once I had decorated my new space.  Well, I’ve lived here for more than half a year, and can NO LONGER stand the ugly clocks… what’s a girl on a budget to do?  Get creative!  Here’s what you need:  A Sharpie (I had a package of @ ! { &  stickers on hand that I purchased on clearance and was waiting to use, but you could easily draw the same characters), opaque paper, screwdriver, and a clock.

This project actually took me under 5 minutes from start to finish.  Simply unscrew the clock frame, pop off all 3 hands, cut the paper to fit, draw your characters, and reassemble! Happy crafting :)

Motherboard Christmas Tree

This past weekend we had a get together with my geeky friends, where I saw the most adorable Christmas Tree made from a circuit board. The lights on it blinked in time to music in colors of red and green and white.  My geeky friend said he made it years ago, and despite my pleading he has no intentions of making more.  Lucky for me, there is the internet!  PurpleJacaranda has the cutest Christmas Tree circuit board crafts on their Etsy page.  I can’t decide if I like the pin more or the ornament, but either way they are awesome!

If blinking lights is what you are looking for though, check out Think Geek.  They not only have a Motherboard Christmas Tree, but also a Motherboard Menorah!  You may have to go this year without Motherboard holiday decor, but next year you will be ready!

Dalek for a Good Cause

Dalek for a Good CauseA good friend of mine is raising money to help a friend with stage 3 ovarian cancer. You can help by bidding on her crafty auctions for items such as this amazing Dalek or by purchasing an ornament in The Fiercegrrl Fund Ornament Shop (including some made by yours truly).

About the Dalek:

I watched Nicholas create this at the ornament party and I was wowed by his commitment to detail and his inventive use of repurposed materials. He stood next to the hot glue gun for hours, meticulously placing each layer of evergreen fringe. This piece is about 5″ wide and stands about 9″ tall. It could easily take the place of a tree topper or could function as an ornament or decor item somewhere in your home.

The Dalek the Halls will be carefully packed and shipped to you via priority mail so you can enjoy your Dr. Wholiday with it. Though this piece is truly priceless, I don’t think we should accept less than $50. Let the bidding begin!

Please click through and buy something to help an amazing crafter!
