Make your own Yip Yip!

Make your own Yip Yip

If you were a child in the 80s, like me, odds are you caught an episode or two of Sesame Street, and have fond memories of the Martians. Especially the time they tried to talk to the telephone – that was my favourite. In fact, I answered my own children’s questions with “yup, yup, yup, yup” or “nope, nope, nope, nope” so many times that I had to look up old clips on YouTube, so the poor things knew what on earth I was going on about.

Dvortygirl on wikiHow has shared the totally free pattern to make these little guys. It’s fairly simple work, and if you are an expert crocheter, you can whip this up fast enough to have your own little army of them. But even if you are just beginning, don’t despair, because they only require single crochet stitches. They’d make great cat toys, kid toys, or even just a neat little decoration for your telephone table :D

GeekCrafts Submission: Harry Potter Sharpie Mug

DIY Sharpie-decorated mugs

We received this as a submission, and what a cute project! I had no idea you could decorate ceramic coffee mugs with regular Sharpies! I love how bright the colors turned out and the adorable little Harry Potter face (complete with mini Gryffindor scarf collar!).

What would you draw on your coffee mug? A Star Trek insignia? The Star Wars Rebel Alliance logo? A couple of Portals?

Friday Round-up: Kyaraben

link bento
Link from The Legend of Zelda by mymealbox at mymealbox.com.

No, it’s not international food week on Geek Crafts. Around here, the sun is trying its best to keep the ponds from freezing, but it’s not working out too well. Bikini season seems years away. Plus, this weekend’s Easter. Eggs! Chocolate! Meat! It’s the perfect time of the year for food!

This Friday round-up I’d like to focus on kyaraben, short for character bento. Let’s see what Wikipedia can tell us about it…

Star Wars Tumblers

Star Wars Tumblers

I’m always looking for the perfect gift for soon-to-be married geek couples or that awesome friend who seems to have everything already.  I know I’ve mentioned geekily functional items already — well, that is most definitely applicable when it comes to geek gift giving, as well.

The fine folks over at coryativ Etched Glassware have created three adorable 10 oz tumblers (a fancy name for a flat-bottomed drinking glass with no handle) with Star Wars designs etched onto the glass.  You can choose from Rebel Alliance, Insignia of the Galactic Empire, and New Jedi Order Symbol.  One tumbler is $10.00, or you can buy 2 for $18.00.

Head over to their website and check out their other designs, as well.  Better yet, think about what custom geeky glassware you’d like to give as a gift or use in your home, since they also love doing custom work.

Geeky Cookie Cutters!

Totoro and Oliver

I found some AMAZING cookie cutters on WarpZone Prints on Etsy, and I just could not resist trying them out!! So, I ordered a few and here’s the finished result! I absolutely love them!! I also have a Mr. Drippy cutter, but I wasn’t able to get the cutter to come out very well, so that needs some practice I think! Athey Moravetz from WarpZone prints makes all the cutters with a 3D printer, and can make custom cutters as well as all the ones in the store!
