Geek Love Etsy Round Up

GeekyValentinesEtsyList

You’ve still got time to find your favorite geeks the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day.  In fact, I’ve rounded up some of my favorites available now on Etsy, including some anti-Valentine’s Day gifts and cards too.  And yes . . . those are zombie gnomes kissing.  Nothing says I love you like zombie gnomes you know.

Geeky Free Printable Valentines

StarWarsValentinesPrintables

It’s never too early to get started on those Valentines, and I’ve found some great ones for Star Wars and Doctor Who fans.

The first series of valentines are designs from Alecia at AleciaDawn Photography.  She’s got seven separate designs, all of them epic, and all of them perfect for kids and adults (and anyone in between).  All you have to do is download and print them out on some card stock.

DoctorWhoValentinesPrintable

The second series I found while exploring the wilds of the intarwebz are valentines from Heidi Schulz and her blog Frantically Simple.  These exploit my ultimate weakness, Doctor Who.  These are definitely worth traveling through space and time, but you’ll only have to download them and print them out on some card stock to enjoy.

The last series of valentines I found are from Hanasaurusrex!  Nothing says “I love you” like zombies, so look no further for Valentine’s Day cards than here!

Geek out for the Holidays with Ornaments

ZombieGingerbreadMan
Zombie Gingerbread Man Ornament by My Zombie Friends on Etsy, credit Adrienne Jones.

To combat holiday stress, I like to decorate with as much geek-tastic awesomeness as I can create and find.  Things like zombie gingerbread men, Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtle ornaments, and 8-bit fireplaces always make me smile.  Why not have a geeky holiday this year and let Geek Crafts give you a head start with some fun, easy tutorials and even a gift idea or two.

Ornaments!

TMNTOrnamentsDIYFor the turtle lover, you’ve got to take a look at The Whoot’s DIY Ninja Turtles. My nephews love the Turtles, and this is the sort of craft you could do with little boys (and plenty of supervision!).

DIYCharacterChristmasOrnaments

My nephews are also in love with the Minions. This awesome DIY features other great fandom character ideas, like Sesame Street and Monsters Inc too.

MuppetOrnamentsDIYThese Muppet ornaments are super easy to make too, thanks to the great tutorial from Meg on Happy Looks Good on You. These little cuties were inspired by her original tutorial on making superhero ornaments.

LegoOrnamentDIY

Sarah Dees from FrugalFun4Boys.com has some fun Lego ornament ideas (good for girls too!).

Geeky Decor Fun

GeekDIYWreath

Kat and Cam from Our Nerd Home has a some great ideas for decorating the home for the holidays, including this Wreath DIY made from foam core! I bet craft foam would work great too.  Plus, you could totally customize this to all of your own favorite fandom images.

I have to share their 8-bit fireplace DIY too.  This is too awesome for words, and incredibly easy to do.  It’s warm and cozy, don’t you think?

8-bitFireplaceDIY

This last decor DIY is not for the faint of heart, but this Embroidery tutorial from Jessica (from Miniature Rhino) on Design Sponge takes you step-by-step through making this beautiful embroidered constellation table runner.  Perhaps not strictly a holiday theme, I think it lends itself well to any winter themed decor you’ve got going on in your home.

The next time you’re having a dinner party, how about serving Potatoes Diana, courtesy of The Kitchen Overlord.

Doesn’t that look amazing?! I love the lasso!  Want to make it yourself? How could you not? You’re in luck. The recipe is found over on The Kitchen Overlord. They have tons of edible art for you to drool over. Think of the party you could throw! They even have vegan jerky crackers. You know you want it.  Be sure to come back and let me know how it was!

Winter is Coming Knit a Scarf

I know, I know, that’s getting really old really fast. But I mean it this time. Knit a scarf that says “Winter is Coming”  Really, Captain- Rachel modified the original pattern so it can be double knit and legible on both sides.  She has charted it out so you can make yourself a nice warm scarf for this coming winter.  And send out the warning before the ice zombies show up.

I have a love of double knit scarves that are truly reversible, so this really makes me happy. I have a double knit scarf on the needles but, who can’t do with more scarves?

Stay-Puft Marshmallow Madness

While dressing up for Halloween is my all-time favorite part, making scary Halloween food runs a close second. Many people know about using spagetti for guts and peeled grapes for eyeballs, but my favorite is making Zombie eyes (aka deviled eggs with green food coloring and red squiggles on the egg whites and a black olive slice on the yolks). For all of you Ghostbusters fans, Nerd by Night (who you might remember from my Don’t Panic towel messenger bag post) has a great recipe and idea to make Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man meringue cookies.

Stay-Puft Meringue Marshmallow Men

Slightly smaller than the 100ft tall terror that rampaged through New York, these Stay-Pufts are just the right size to impress your friends AND be eaten! All you need is some sugar, egg whites, cream of tartar, (Nerd by Night links to a great meringue recipe as well), and some colored icing. Good luck, and great eats!
