A Crocheted Cosplay

barda

I love a good crochet project as much as the next geek, and gaylefrancis just took it up a notch, with her crocheted Big Barda costume.

Gaylefrancis said with the exception of the hexagons, she didn’t use any patterns. The legs, torso, and gauntlets are crocodile stitch. The cape is triple crochet. The rest of it is half-double. The megarod is single crochet with bubble stitch on the top and the buttons were stitched on separately.

For those of you not in the know, Big Barda is a fictional comic book superheroine appearing in books published by DC Comics. She first appeared in Mister Miracle #4 (October 1971), and was created by Jack Kirby.

Iron Man Cutting Board

cutting board

I do enjoy the craftiness that goes on over at Imgur, but those posts are so short. Since it’s a photo-based site, there’s never enough info about the crafts to satisfy my geeky little brain. That’s part of the reason why I love Craftster so much… all the details of a geek craft you can handle!

Case in point: BadWolf314‘s Iron Man kitchen cutting board! BadWolf314 actually made this for another craftster in a swap and didn’t even keep this for herself!

It’s made out of Bloodwood for the red, the eyes are maple, and the rest of it is cherry. And each piece is 1/4″ wide. There was even a little blood shed over this project, where her knee got cut on a sharp edge. To finish it off, BadWolf314 did, “a TON of sanding,” and tung oil to bring out the patterns of the wood.

A Magic-al Proposal

Magic proposal card by Lindsey Loree

How’s this for a meaningful – and dare I say magical? – proposal? Lindsey Loree, whom I found via Female Geek Bloggers on G+, crafted this custom Magic: The Gathering card to propose to her boyfriend during a gaming session.

She blogged about the whole experience, from deviously learning to play Magic better so it wouldn’t be weird that she asked him to play with her, on through the process for crafting the card, to the actual game-proposal. Magical, indeed!

Any other geeky proposal stories out there?

I Need This in My Living Room

tardis

Crazyfoalrus of Australia is a Whovian we should all aspire to be…he turned his living room into the TARDIS control room!

Crazyfoalrus did all the lighting and electrical himself, built the whole console and painted the floor. His living room was already hexagonal shaped room, he owned all the timber, and he worked at a factory with a lot of spare parts to be dumped which were used for the controls. It took him a year to finish.

Check out his Deviant Art gallery for more images from his redesigned living room.
