NPR’s Ira Glass in Cross Stitch
Check out this amazing work of cross stitch. Craftster user postfeminist stitched this meticulously detailed portrait of Ira Glass of NPR’s This American Life. She says she’s working on Elvis Costello and others. I can’t wait to see more of her work!

Floral Cross-Stitch Street Installations
Raquel Rodrigo has created some amazing large scale floral cross stitch street artworks. This needs to become as popular as yarn bombing was.
Set designer and artist Raquel Rodrigo brings the macro details of cross-stitch embroidery to building facades around Madrid. Her colorful installations are prepared beforehand with enlarged cross-stitch techniques utilizing thick string wrapped on wire mesh before each is unrolled and affixed to a surface. The decorative pieces create a fun, pixelated texture that looks completely different close up versus at a distance.
Cross-stitching smileys; inspiring minds
About one million years ago I cross-stitched a whole bunch of forum smileys/emoticons and attached them to note cards for a massive Internet forum-based snail mail exchange. At the time I was pretty sure that what I was doing was ridiculous, but I was having fun, and these were only people on the Internet anyway, so who cared, right?!
Today I received the nicest letter from one of the recipients that I’ve actually kept in touch with after all these years. In it, he explained that crafting had never occurred to him before he received my card, but that he loved it so much he tried out cross-stitch for himself (he actually sent me his first attempt – a Half-Life lambda icon), and that led to him trying out other crafts and projects from knitting, to papercraft, to electronics, and beyond!
So really what I wanted to share with you today was the thought that even though I was sure my little cross-stitch pixel-art cards were daft, they actually inspired someone out there to explore their own creativity, and that is AWESOME.
So keep crafting, folks – inspire away! And you know, looking back I reckon those emoticon cards were actually a pretty cool idea. If I do say so myself :)
3D Transforming Optimus Prime Cross-Stitch
This three dimensional Optimus Prime is impressive to say the least. Plastic canvas has never looked so extreme. Based on the original toy series, superstar Lord Libidan, I would say this is his pièce de résistance. What? Not uber enough for you? IT TRANSFORMS!
That’s right. Not only did he make a poseable transformer, Optimus Prime transforms into a truck!!! No seriously, look at this!
Just when you thought this couldn’t be any cooler! He also has plans for other Transformers including Starscream. Head on over to his Etsy shop and be prepared to have your head explode!
Intense Pokemon cross-stitch
Linda is a 26-year old cross-stitch wizard living in Latvia. Check out her video documenting progress on a Pokemon cross stitch. When I saw it I was all “Whu? Gah! Ohh! Ahhh!” Then I thought about how my cross-stitching is bad and I should feel bad.
Check out Linda’s blog for other cross-stitch stuff as well as gorgeous shots of Latvian landscapes.
