Geeky Diaper Covers by Domestic Geek Girl

Projects like these Geeky Themed Diaper Covers by Domestic Geek Girl really make me wish I had some wee ones still in the house. (Of course, with a son who just turned 20, it doesn’t take much to make me wish to turn back time a little!) So for now I’ll have to settle for sharing these booty-licious beauties with you.

With the great geek fabrics from Marvel, Star Trek, Star Wars and more available at Jo-Ann’s and other retailers, you have so many options for creating some eye-catching geek couture for the precious cheeks in your life.

So I have a question for you – do you dress your children in geeky clothes, or are you letting them decide on their own to follow that path?

Peanut Heroes

wonder peanut

I am both amazed, and a little creeped out, by how realistic these peanuts look their real counterparts.

Artist Steve Casino can sum up his favorite celebrities and characters in just a single peanut each. The Kentucky-based sculptor says he can spend up to 20 hours a day making 4 inch celebrity statuettes out of peanuts, which are then painted with acrylic paint. He also uses bamboo skewers for arms and legs.

Alien Chestburster Onesie

chestburster

Let me just say, I don’t have a baby, but if I did, my baby would totally need a onesie like this!!

Writer and director Mike Dougherty (X-Men 2, Superman Returns, etc…) designed this chestburster-themed onesie with the help of a few Crayola markers. He even included the Weyland-Yutani logo on the sleeve! And because he just used Crayola markers on a white onesie, the possibilities of different movie “companies” are pretty much limited. Right off the bat, I’m thinking Omni Consumer Products from “Robocop” and Stark Industries would be fun options.

Here Be Dragon…Mitts

mythic_wendyb

February is nearly over but I’m still cold.  So I have been looking at all warm weather things, and pondering making thrummed everything.  And looking at stranded items. These mittens came up and until the end of today they are on sale for 40% off the pattern.

I will be trying my hand at colorwork once again to do these mitts. I think I may make them in red and gold for Merlin or Red and black for House Targaryen. Hmm, red and black are my favorite colors.   Fire and Blood it is.

A Bag They Call Jayne

Jayne Bag by Sharon Muffett

In honor of Adam Baldwin’s birthday on February 27th, I found a fun subtle ode to his Jayne Cobb character on the super-shiny, yet sadly-canceled-before-its-time TV show “Firefly.” Sharon Muffett posted this clever Jayne Bag over on Craftster.

She gathered a compilation of quippy Jayne quotes, created a design in Photoshop, printed it onto calico fabric, and used that to create a bag. Brilliant. This concept would be easy to apply to other fandoms – which would you choose?

New Doctor Who Amigurumi Dolls

war doctor

Austin-based artist Allison Hoffman makes crafty tributes to pop culture icons such as Pee-Wee Herman, Conan O’Brien, Carl Sagan, Willie Nelson, and Questlove, but it’s her new crocheted amigurumi dolls of “Doctor Who” Time Lords that seem to be getting a lot of attention.

Fans can make their own versions using her patterns available on Ravelry.

Crafty is Cool created her version of Peter Capaldi in crochet form.
