“Always in motion is the future.”

–Yoda, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Good morning, fellow Craft Geeks! I’m AmyLynn98 and I get to join all of you as your new Saturday morning poster. I enjoy crochet (a lot of the kinds of crochet and sewn items I make tend to be toys for friends and family made from my own patterns), sewing and card making as my main crafts, and now I can show all of you the really creative and crafty people out there that share our love handmade goodies. My favorite item that I’d like to take a crack at myself are these awesome TARDIS Chuck Taylors!

Some of the “geek” things that currently turn me on are Spider-Man (Peter Parker), Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew), Batman, Star Wars, Star Trek (I called myself a Trekkie before Trek was cool, and was proud of it), Doctor Who (my Doctors are #1, #4 and #10), Stephen King (I have a dog named Cujo), “The Big Bang Theory,” “Face Off” on SyFy, Abraham Lincoln, the Terminator, and most anything Halloween-related (more about the holiday than the movies, but those were good too). My plans for Halloween this year is to make a Gonk droid for my yard, finish off my Jedi costume (I’m a DIY Jedi!) and fix my full size guillotine.

Since I have to act like an adult most times, I work as a volunteer coordinator for a local hospice. I was able to start sharing my love of all things yarny and crocheted with our patients by providing them with handmade blankets. Volunteers up and down the East Coast help me to make them, and they all rock for it!

See you all on Saturday mornings…after the good cartoons are over, of course! Last one to the TV is a rotten egg!

Enderman Soft Toy

Enderman Sewing Pattern

Do you speak German?  Of course you do, otherwise why would you be here?  This adorable Enderman sewing pattern comes from bleeptrack.de, a ridiculously awesome site devoted to “geeks, games und der ganze rest”.  I could have used Google translate to figure out what is going on with this pattern, but there is a handy video included that saves me the trouble of using my fancy book learning to figure out words.

I am a bit of a Minecraft fanatic, so when I saw this pattern I knew I had to share it no matter what language it was written in.

Go Check out the Pattern here!

Check it out in English here!

While you are there, be sure to check out some of the other awesome stuff on bleeptrack.de, like the Lemmings paintings or the Minecraft comic.

Introducing Marsha

Hey all, I will be your regular Friday morning blogger so I thought I would throw a bit of introduction at you first. I am a long time crafter, currently focused on knitting, spinning, and bead working to name a few things that I get my own crafty hands busy with.  So I’m sure geeky knits will be prominent.

I tend to roam the internet as One Geek to Craft Them All, so that should point out at least one geeky place that is precious to me. I’m a fan of comics, fantasy, mythology, magic, cosplay, and plenty of others. To be more specific things that own a place in my heart, include but are not limited to, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Harry Dresden, Game of Thrones, Star Trek, Supernatural, Harry Potter; you know the basics. The list goes ever on.

In my day to day life I put my Master’s in Industrial/Organizational Psychology to use as Research Associate at a management consultant firm.  I can feel your eyes glazing over from here so I’m gonna stop there. It’s for the best really. My closest friends only vaguely understand what I do. I like statistics, I play with them for a living, is close enough, really.

I’ll see everyone bright an early on  Friday and until then I leave you with a handmade Tardis dress I have been trying to talk myself out of buying by Lex from  Smarmy Clothes.

Marsha can usually be found, roaming twitter as @1geek2craftall or blogging at One Geek To Craft Them All. She thinks cheaters never prosper, unless it’s the Kobayashi Maru. Then cheat like there’s no other way to win.

A Star Purse for Every Occasion

If only I had my sewing machine in my possession (I lent it to a friend) and a place to set it up, I might have given this a shot! See, deciding to work with my hair (it’s pink), I opted for a pink-hair-friendly Halloween costume and am currently sitting in my office dressed as Ramona Flowers. I went the easy route and bought a pre-made star purse, but how awesome would it have been if I’d bought this pattern and made my own bag with a star I could swap out in any color? That woulda been pretty sweet….

If I’m up to it in the future (or you want to give it a shot prior to next Halloween or any impending cons or costume parties), you can pick up the pattern from Haley’s Wonderful Distractions.

Oh, and happy Halloween!

Meet Spocktopus: A Highly Logical Octopus

Spocktopus

Often when I can’t fall asleep at night, my thoughts turn to crafts. I solve all sorts of crafty conundrums in that drowsy half-dozing state – the perfect glue to adhere something, the right binding for a sewing project, where I last saw my size “P” crochet hook…

Plagued with menopause-induced insomnia, Karen at SewMuch2Luv lay awake one night and thought of crafts, too. That’s how she came up with the idea to combine an octopus with Star Trek for a friend. The result: Spocktopus.

I love that he has the gold rickrack on his tentacles – nice detail.

What kind of crafty meanderings keep you awake at night? Or what project would you work on if you had insomnia?
