Level up with a GamerGhan!

GamerGhan by Alicia1018

I’ve featured some geektastic afghans here on GeekCrafts, such as Lattes & Llamas Geek-a-Longs (2014 and 2015), as well as a Settlers of Catan blanket. On Ravelry recently I stumbled across this beauty by Alicia1018, which she aptly calls her GamerGhan.

Twenty-five crochet squares pay homage to a variety of video games, including Tetris, Minecraft, Angry Birds, Harvest Moon, Pac-Man, World of Warcraft, and Oblivion. Alicia very kindly uploaded patterns for all of the squares – you can find them linked in her Ravelry project post.

What video games would you include in blanket form? Let us know in the comments below!

An Afghan from Far, Far Away

Star Wars afghan by Courtney of Spin A Yarn 32

It gets cold in space, so you might want to cozy up with this crochet Star Wars afghan by Courtney of Spin A Yarn 32. She has kindly rounded up sources and some of her own original graphs/charts for an empire’s worth of  afghan squares, including:

  • Death Star
  • Stormtrooper
  • Y-wing & X-wing
  • Old Rebublic Logo
  • R2-D2
  • Tie Fighter
  • Millinium Falcon
  • Boba & Jengo Fett
  • Empire & Rebel Insignia
  • C3P0
  • At-At
  • Lightsabers (multiple variations!)
  • Darth Maul
  • Darth Vader
  • Ewok
  • Yoda

What’s cool is you can either stitch these all up for an epic blanket of Star Wars awesomeness, or stitch up individual designs for a set of washcloths – great for a geek housewarming!

Geek-a-Long with Lattes and Llamas

Geek-a-long afghan squares by Lattes and Llamas

The gals at Lattes and Llamas are at it again – Jac and Megan-Anne are hosting another year-long nerdtastic “geek-a-long” mystery knitting project. I spotlighted their endeavor last year, and wanted to let you know they are deep into this year’s project.

They release an all-new geek reference block every week, so you build an afghan over the course of a year. They’ve already featured Bunsen & Beaker from the Muppets, the Flash, Indiana Jones, and Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus.

I *love* that their patterns include both knitting and crochet instructions – it can be hard to find geek love for the crocheters out there, so I appreciate that!

What geek references do you hope they represent in upcoming patterns? Do you prefer knitting or crochet?

Don’t Settle for a Plain Afghan

Settlers of Catan Afghan

Why settle for a plain crochet afghan when you have work up something bold like this beauty? Bonus points for the geek reference to the board game Settlers of Catan, of course! (which, I must admit, I’ve never played, but my son used to play it quite often with friends, so I would assume it’s rather geeky.)

I also love her little sheep pins roaming the green “pastures” of the blanket.

Any Settlers fans out there?

Well, hello beautiful.

What can I say? Heath Ledger won my heart very early on in his acting career in the U.S. From “A Knight’s Tale” through to “The Dark Knight”, his name pulled me to the theaters time and again.

I found this afghan on Craftster and my heart just melted. Not only is it is very well done and a labor of love, but it’s a great tribute to his life, his work,  and his impact on our movie industry.

Pesky Pixie! Thank you for creating this beautiful afghan!
