Dr. Who Meets Jayne Cobb

Unfortunately, the tragically short-lived TV series “Firefly” wasn’t on the air long enough to do a crossover episode, but clever crafter came up with the idea to do a Firefly/Dr. Who mashup project: a knit Jayne Cobb hat done in Dr. Who scarf colors. She (HolyNarf?) calls it her “Doctor Jayne” hat.

The effect is so subtle that most would probably not recognize that it’s Doctor Who colors, even if they might recognize the Jayne Cobb hat style. And the colors are definitely male-friendly, which I love – it can be hard to find manly hat patterns. At least for my men. Do you ever have the same problem? Would this hat make the “acceptable crafting” list for a man in your life? Or maybe yourself?

From Tricking & Treating to Easter Basket, TARDIS!

From Tricking & Treating to Easter Basket, TARDIS! That’s what is so wonderful about the TARDIS, time becomes wibbly, wobbly and what you thought worked as a Halloween TARDIS Trick or Treat Tote would be equally appropriate as an Easter Basket for your favorite Companion as you travel through time.

This free tote pattern is the creation of Jennifer Ofenstein of Sewhooked who was inspired by a request for a TARDIS bag from her daughter.  With some felt, thread and ingenuity, Jennifer came up with a tote that can hold so many wonderful things, not just candy (though it really is the perfect place for hiding that chocolate stash).

Wibbly Wobbly, Timey Whimey Jewelry

You’ll have to forgive me for posting about Doctor Who twice in a row, but I was unable to control my excitement when I came across this jewelry.

Anyone who knows me well, knows I really love hand stamped jewelry. Whether it’s hand stamped leather, or hand stamped metal, I think it’s one of the prettiest and simplest pieces of jewelry a girl can own. However, I hadn’t ever searched for hand stamped fandom jewelry. When I clicked search on Etsy at this time, I had no idea I could never go back.

I immediately was drawn to the work done at Chasing at Starlight on Etsy. The fonts for the many different items (I’m a font harlot), along with all the jewelry for my many different fandoms (Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Sherlock), made me completely geek out.

All of them are so beautifully made! They’ve made my list for my next geek jewelry purchase!

Is there a Doctor in the Tardis?

Is there a Doctor in the Tardis?Yes, there is and not just one but eleven Doctors.

Pixelated Mushroom, who describes herself as a “Librarian based in Australia who likes to knit, crochet, juggle and firetwirl (but not all at once)”, has completed crochet patterns for mini versions of all eleven regenerations of Doctor Who as well the Tardis.  She’s compiled them into a wonderful PDF Collection that you can download here.

Talk Gallifreyan to Me!

When it comes to Doctor Who, I am an unapologetic fangirl. One of the things I find the most interesting is the language of Gallifrey. We’ve only seen bits and pieces of it throughout the series, but every time there is a new symbol or word written in Gallifreyan, I get giddy.

Which is why, when I ran across ER3 Designs Gallifreyan themed jewelry, I let out a giggle of happiness. The most common Gallifrey symbol turned craft is the Seal of Rassilon. ER3 Designs also have the symbol for Time Lord and the Seal of Omega.

These are perfect for anyone wanting to show off their inner (or rather, outer) timelord.
