Knit: Longer on the Outside Scarf

Unless you are/were one of the lucky ones to get into a World Tour Screening we are nearly at the premiere of a new season of Doctor Who. And  we know how I feel about having fitting crafts for the times right? So why not a re-imaging of the fourth doctor’s scarf with some illusion knitting to go with it.  Designer, Franklin Habit, has done just that.

Illusion/Shadow knitting is a technique, where using two colors and the basic knit stitches of Knit & Purl (seriously everything is built on those two guys). You use two colors and alternating your knit and purl stitches in pattern to create an image that is only visible at certain angles.  A fun way to have a surprise picture appear.  You can  see this effect in the scarf photo.

I’ve always been torn about making myself a 4th doctor scarf, but this? This will have to happen.  Head over to Raverly to purchase you own copy.

Guess Who: Doctor Who Edition

Doctor Who Guess Who game by Karen Kavett

If you’re jonesing for the next Doctor Who season to start like we are at my house, you’ll want to check out this cool project by Karen Kavett – she repurposed a 1980s Guess Who board game into a custom Doctor Who version. How fun would it be to have this at a premiere watch party??

Karen paid significant attention to detail, painting the plastic trays a TARDIS blue, and the scoring pegs like mini sonic screwdrivers. She created (rebooted) Doctor Who images to replace the original people cards, including the 9th, 10th, and 11th Doctor, his Companions, and other important characters (DON’T BLINK when you flip up that Weeping Angel card!). She graciously provided PDFs of her images, to make it easier for the rest of us Whovians.

Not satisfied to stop with the Doctor, Karen also repurposed a Clue game as a Hunger Games version!

Doctor Who Lawn Gnome

Have you ever wondered what David Tennant might look like as a yard gnome? Yeah, I know, that might be the weirdest question you hear all day, but bear with me.

gnome.

Redforkhippie of Tulsa, OK posted this modified yard gnome into everyone’s favorite Time Lord, over at Craftster. She said her gnome started his little concrete life as a biker, complete with chaps, engineer boots, and a skull brooch/bolo tie/whatever.

She’s planning another modified gnome for Matt Smith, and it includes using a hacksaw to turn his gnome hat into a fez.

Doctor Who Damask Tardis Women’s Oxfords

Ask most women and they will probably tell you that you can’t have enough shoes. SewWhatByMonica, an Etsy seller from San Antonio, has created a must have pair of shoes for any female Whovian.

doctor who shoes

Each pair of oxford shoes are purchased brand new. A water-based sealer and finish is used on the fabric areas, where there are fancy little TARDISES (TARDI?) in the pattern. SewWhatByMonica also uses black acrylic paint to finish the fabric ends.

Or if damask and the TARDIS are not your thing, there’s also a pair available in Gallifreyan writing on them.

Austin-based artist Allison Hoffman makes crafty tributes to pop culture icons such as Pee-Wee Herman, Conan O’Brien, Carl Sagan, Willie Nelson, and Questlove, but it’s her new crocheted amigurumi dolls of “Doctor Who” Time Lords that seem to be getting a lot of attention.

Fans can make their own versions using her patterns available on Ravelry.

Crafty is Cool created her version of Peter Capaldi in crochet form.
