Gift A Geek: Tea! Just What The Doctor Ordered

Tea! That’s all I needed. A good cup of tea. A superheated infusion of free radicals and tannin. Just the thing for heating the synapses.

15eb_doctor_who_tardis_tea_infuserDid you think I had a different Doctor in mind? I mean there are 12 to choose from.

The Tardis Tea Infuser is available at Think Geek  But to get to the actual Tea. We have so many choices. Like tea itself wasn’t geeky enough there are fandom blends to make you happy.

Fandom Blend Tea Sets from Adagio Tea  Firefly, Teen Wolf, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who…pick a sampler blend for $19. If there’s a fandom or three you want to try/gift.

Tea and Absinthe   Doctor Who teas and Tea, Earl Grey Hot.  They also have a few tea accessories.

Tea and Other Things – Butterbeer and Chocolate Frog flavored tea need I say more?

And of course you will need something to make this tea in:

I feel like there is a degree of Serenity placing those words on a teapot.

And One would be remiss to not provide something to drink the tea from. I pity the fool without a tea mug.

Build the geekest tea set you can, and go off and spread tea among the masses.  All of the shops linked above, have a few other choices for mug, for pot, for infuser, and of course for Tea.

Geek out for the Holidays with Ornaments

ZombieGingerbreadMan
Zombie Gingerbread Man Ornament by My Zombie Friends on Etsy, credit Adrienne Jones.

To combat holiday stress, I like to decorate with as much geek-tastic awesomeness as I can create and find.  Things like zombie gingerbread men, Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtle ornaments, and 8-bit fireplaces always make me smile.  Why not have a geeky holiday this year and let Geek Crafts give you a head start with some fun, easy tutorials and even a gift idea or two.

Ornaments!

TMNTOrnamentsDIYFor the turtle lover, you’ve got to take a look at The Whoot’s DIY Ninja Turtles. My nephews love the Turtles, and this is the sort of craft you could do with little boys (and plenty of supervision!).

DIYCharacterChristmasOrnaments

My nephews are also in love with the Minions. This awesome DIY features other great fandom character ideas, like Sesame Street and Monsters Inc too.

MuppetOrnamentsDIYThese Muppet ornaments are super easy to make too, thanks to the great tutorial from Meg on Happy Looks Good on You. These little cuties were inspired by her original tutorial on making superhero ornaments.

LegoOrnamentDIY

Sarah Dees from FrugalFun4Boys.com has some fun Lego ornament ideas (good for girls too!).

Geeky Decor Fun

GeekDIYWreath

Kat and Cam from Our Nerd Home has a some great ideas for decorating the home for the holidays, including this Wreath DIY made from foam core! I bet craft foam would work great too.  Plus, you could totally customize this to all of your own favorite fandom images.

I have to share their 8-bit fireplace DIY too.  This is too awesome for words, and incredibly easy to do.  It’s warm and cozy, don’t you think?

8-bitFireplaceDIY

This last decor DIY is not for the faint of heart, but this Embroidery tutorial from Jessica (from Miniature Rhino) on Design Sponge takes you step-by-step through making this beautiful embroidered constellation table runner.  Perhaps not strictly a holiday theme, I think it lends itself well to any winter themed decor you’ve got going on in your home.

Mom’s Basement – Handmade Geeky Fun

Today’s post is brought to you by Holly of Custom Comix!

momsbasement

Calling all Geekery Crafters and lovers of all things handmade and geeky! My name is Holly Donahue and about 4 years ago I started Mom’s Basement, an Etsy.com team aimed towards bringing geekery crafters together to share advice, participate in projects  and just talk and learn from each other. Like minded people who come together? Awesome.

Mom’s Basement was extremely active with over 1300 members and the community was filled with helpful people reaching out, making new friends and participating to keep the geekery on Etsy a community and not a competition. A geek crafters utopia! Unfortunately, with changes in Etsy’s interface, Etsy teams weren’t as accessible and almost forgotten. So, in an attempt to bring back the spirit of this community, I decided to create a facebook group for any and all geekery crafters that would like to join in and be among people that share your interests and struggles. Have an Etsy/Store Envy shop? Interested in selling your wares but don’t know where to start? Love to shop handmade? All are welcome!

This facebook group is brand spanking new, but I know we can catch fire and be booming in no time. I hope to see some new faces and look forward to making new friends! If you are interested in joining, you can find us by following this link – https://www.facebook.com/groups/825432380835397/

Find Geeky Fabrics at Spoonflower

Doctor Who headband by Costume Wrangler

Have you heard of Spoonflower? It’s a company/site that allows you to create print-on-demand fabric, wallpaper and giftwrap. Which makes it a geekcrafter’s dream, both for designers and general crafty folk. You can upload your own designs to print on fabric and such, or browse the thousands of patterns created by others. There are a bounty of categories, including Geek, and pretty much every fandom you can think of is represented, including Doctor Who (see also Whovian), Star Trek, Firefly, Sherlock, and Hobbit. I’m personally eyeing this swirly Doctor Who fabric by Risarocksit to make a skirt in the near future. (I actually took a skirt making class, just so I could use this fabric!)

I recently met a geekcrafter who uses Spoonflower to print her designs and then creates items to sell in her Etsy shop – Elinor Parker, aka The Costume Wrangler. I purchased a cool Doctor Who headband (pictured above) from her at a local craft fair, which features her custom design of TARDISes spinning in the cosmos.

Have you created anything with Spoonflower fabric? Or purchased anything made from custom-designed fabric? Link us up in the Comments section below!

We Are Groot.

Everyone wants to get their hands on a certain dancing tree. Well there are ways now, you can give a crafter some support, or you can take up the tools of your preferred craft and have at it. Heck there was a post here just a couple days ago with a lovely piece of Groot jewelry.

You can also find a Groot Brooch here. Perhaps you want a decorative but non wearable Groot. We have that too and more.

blueeyedmagic_groot

I know what you are saying, that’s all well and good but I want my Groot to dance.  Well, The Mary Sue shared the instructions to do that as well.

After all that there is only one thing left to say. I am Groot.
