Sleep if Convenient…

. . . and with this pillowcase, you’ll want to sleep even if not convenient! What better to encourage pleasant dreams of everyone’s favorite consulting detective than this ‘Dreaming of Sherlock’ pillowcase.  The single pillowcase is a cotton blend and a  standard size and beige.  The crafter, one of our two favorite Death Eaters, is Dixiebell who is co-owner of Death Eater Delights on Etsy.

Prefer to dream of consulting criminals rather than consulting detectives?  Or perhaps you prefer a different incarnation of Sherlock?  Just drop Dixiebell a line at Etsy and share your suggestion.  She loves to try new ideas.

Now if you excuse me, I need to drop a Death Eater a line about dreaming of Mycroft!

Faerie Fashion

After being heavily involved with historical reenactment for 19 years, I can appreciate great costuming, both in the time spent in its creation and the money invested. Costuming done right is a labor of love. One of my favorite “fun” types of costuming has to be faeries. There are no set rules, just let your mind run free!

sairosaurus on Craftster has shared her faerie creations. What is even better is that as you read through this thread, not only do you get to see some fantastic photos but she goes into her creative process for several bits and pieces of her costumes. She discusses how she made her goblin shoes, a goblin latex mask as well as her faerie wings. Her work is amazing!

I Know Nothing About Star Trek

Star Trek comm badge needle holderHaving never seen so much as a single episode, I know nothing about Star Trek, so I cannot come up with a cute slash amusing pun to title this post with.

Before you revoke my geek badge, let me explain; I cannot watch tv series, or films, out of order. I have to start right at the beginning and do them all, in order of creation. With Star Trek (and, while I’m confessing, the same goes for Dr Who; I’ve never seen an episode of that either) I just never had the heart to sit down at the start of 6 series and 12 (12!!) films. Maybe when I’m retired, then I’ll have time.

But never mind all that, one thing I do know; this Star Trek Comm Badge Needle Holder is cute.  It’s by Jenn, who is one of those quilters / generally amazing at everything she tries crafters who’s blog simultaneously inspires me and makes me despair at my lack of skill.

Is that a Dalek dress?

Why yes, yes it is. Color me impressed. So impressed, in fact, that I’ll admit that Daleks kind of turned me off of Dr. Who at first. In fact, I first met them during a sewing project.

I was working on something challenging and the show was playing in the background.  My sewing project hit a frustrating snag and all I  heard in the background was that horrible >>EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE<< and I.just. got. stressed. out.

The way my story ended was with a poorly hemmed pair of fuzzy pig print pajama pants and a moratorium on Dr. Who in my house (or at least in my presence). I do not have the skill and tenacity of somevelvetmorning, who produced with sewing poetry (also known as sewitry).

She shares the step-by-step instructions with us to attempt to replicate her awesomeness.:

Friday Round-Up: Fish with Feet

So, this week’s Friday Round-Up celebrates one of my heroes, Darwin. The well-known two legged take on the ichthys symbol  is used by fans of evolution (can a scientific theory have fans? Does it matter if it does or not? It’s popularity’s kinda irrelevant; it’s still true…). Darwin Fish (Or Tonys, as all good Feeters know) are rough depictions of Ichyostega, the remains of which are important transitional fossils between tetrapods and fish, since they have a tail and gulls akin to fish but amphibian style skull and limbs.

So, I present to you my ten favourite crafts in honour of both Darwin and Tony…

For Little Geeks on the Go!

For those of us who are parents, we all deal with the same problem of how to keep our little geeklings occupied and/or quiet when needed. Yesterday while perusing Pinterest, I found the most amazing answer!

A Star Trek Quiet Book!  I am in AWE! Julie has created an amazing quiet book complete with a full set of the Next Gen characters in finger puppet form, transporter, a Vulcan salute and Geordie’s glasses.

Heck, I think I’d have to buy two of these books. One for my kids and one for ME!

Check out Julie’s etsy for even more of her geeky, creative genius!
