Horseshoes (Not That Kind)

Despite not being a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (my three-word review: stylish but banal), I absolutely see the appeal of these shoes. They’re nicely done and hilarious. You can buy practically any MLP design, but why would you? It’s Derpy Hooves or nothing, dude. Oh, right—in a nod to the bronies out there, artist Rhonda Savage makes the shoes in any size and in an assortment of styles. Perfect for MLP fans of any age, foot size, or gender.

Everybody scream!

Nightmare Before Christmas shoes

It’s certainly showing my age to say that I remember the ads coming out during the September and October of my senior year of high school for The Nightmare Before Christmas and being so. very. excited.  I don’t recall a time before or since that I so eagerly anticipated a movie and had it live up to my exceptions so completely.

Obviously, lots of time has passed since then. Burton decided to make that horrible adaptation of Alice in Wonderland (>>shudder!<<) BUT… he’s got another movie (Frankenweenie) coming out this weekend and it is claymation and I’m going to give it a chance because it looks adorable and creepy and everything else I love about this time of year.

As an homage, I decided to post these really cute painted shoes, featuring the only lovable 2-faced politician and Jack and Sally during a moment of romance.

Check out Tracy Pierce’s page on Etsy to see more angles. Look out for Oogy Boogy!

Clone Wars shoes

Now this is my kind of party! After seeing a plethora of cool decoupaged shoes online, Amy Ratcliffe decided to host a “Nerd Shoe Craftacular” so she and her friends could try their hand at some of the projects. And pardon me for saying so, but I’d say the results are a SHOE-IN for geektastic delight.

A variety of geekdoms were represented, including Star Wars, Dr. Who, Game of Thrones, and comic book heroes, but I think my favorite project is this pair of Clone Wars pumps. Sublime.

Comically Cool Shoes

Now I know what I should have done with that container of Mod Podge that I had kicking around my craft box for…well, years. I should have made awesome shoes like these rad Batgirl babies, courtesy of Giant Dorkgasm proprietress The Dorktress. I could have She-Ra shoes! Of course, I’d have to dig up all the old mini-comics that came with the dolls, and they’re probably kicking around my grandparents’ attic. Hm. Maybe this isn’t practical. Though that hasn’t stopped me before….

Thanks to fellow Dorkgasm blogger Zack H. for sending me the link!

Galactically Awesome Star Wars Shoes

hand-painted Star Wars shoes

Holy Mother of Meteors, these shoes are full of all kinds of sassy geekitude! I would so rock these.

Spied on Geek-lee-tist, these custom-made hand-painted Star Wars shoes are the handiwork of Holly Grothues on Etsy. I bow to her greatness – of painting ability, and geek-lovin’ creativity.

What I love is that she’s not married to Star Wars – she’s totally geek-friendly:

“I can do pretty much ANYTHING, from geekery (Harry Potter, LOTR, Star Wars, Star Trek, The Hunger Games, etc.) other movies, animes, video games, etc. to general designs (stripes, polka dots, etc.), personalization (quotes, names, etc.) you name it!”

I would have a hard time choosing between Star Trek images and some Firefly quotes, but you can bet I’m going to start looking for the right pair of fabric-based heels!

And you? What custom order would you request for your own geek-tastic heels?

Pika-shoes!

How cute are these glittery little Pikachu ballet flats? So cute? Tremendously cute? Catherine Gretschel will make-to-order your size, and you’ll find a variety of geeky themes available in her Etsy shop. The shoes are coated with several layers of resin to keep you from leaving a trail of glitter as you shuffle through your day.

P.S. I didn’t realize this until about two years ago when I was doing research for a video game I was designing about ecology, but pikas are actual, cute little rodents that live in the mountains. I really thought the word “pika” was an adorable Pokemon made-up-word.  Go tell everyone ^.^
