Jedi Master Qin

Here I go again posting about cosplay and Star Wars, but this is a costume that you have to see to believe!

Qin, a Togorian (alien feline race) and Jedi master with a dark past. She is blind and her ears have been bifurcated, but she manages to see and hear anyway, as created by Qarrezel, over at Deviant Art. I love how beautiful this headpiece is, and I know if I ever ran into Qin somewhere, I’d need to touch her! There’s even an awesome video that I wish I could add here, but since I can’t, check it out here.

Star Wars Fans Build 1:2 Scale Tie Fighter

Spooky over at Oddity Central wrote, “The Star Wars universe has millions of fans throughout the world, and some of them really invest a lot of time and money into their passion for the franchise. Case in point, a group of German Star Wars enthusiasts who created an almost life-size model of the iconic Tie Fighter spacecraft out of wood, steel and plastic.

“It took an army of hobbyists two years to complete, but the 1:2 scale Tie Fighter recently unveiled in Eichenzell, Germany, is a true DIY masterpiece. 20 Star Wars fans of different professions, from financial brokers to policemen and architects, put their blood and tears into this 5.30 m wide, 4.80 m long, 4.30 m high and 1.4 tons heavy model of the Galactic Empire’s starfighter. They worked in 12-meter-wide parking garage and spent an estimated €14,000 ($18,500) on necessary materials. The steel and aluminum frame alone cost €6,000 ($8,000), the wood was mostly provided for free, and the giant plastic ball that makes up the cockpit cost €1,900 ($2,500). Luckily, they had a couple of generous sponsors who took care of the bills.”

Handmade Star Wars Dress

We’ve featured a few great handmade dresses on Geek Crafts recently – there was the Starfleet dress, the dragon dress, the space dress and the rather bizarre bread tag dress. So here’s another wonderful user submission – a handmade Star Wars dress:

Cindy of Cation Designs last year acquired some original Star Wars: A New Hope bed sheets, and did what any crafty science teacher would do: turn them into a dress. And while Cindy is pretty critical of it on her blog, I think we can all agree that it looks incredible.

There are a few other geeky dresses on Cation Designs as well that are worth a look. Check out the Batman Dress or Spiderman Dress, for example. It’s times like this that I wish I owned a sewing machine, knew how to operate one, and had patience in buckets. But then if we could all do this, it wouldn’t be nearly as awesome, would it?!

Han Solo Lego Portrait

Back in April I went along to The Sydney Brick Show: a big Lego event where Lego sculptors bring some of their awesome creations and chat with other fanatics, whilst hundred of little kids run around suffering from excitement overload. I was originally going to write an entire post about the event, but there was just so much awesome stuff there, that I’ve kind had to just cut it down to the best for now. And here you are: Han Solo Lego Pixel Art.

This incredible portrait of Star Wars’ Han Solo is something like 1 metre squared and is made up of over TWENTY THOUSAND bricks. And they are all those tiny “one-ers” that you miss when clearing up and then stand on days later.

Beaker Bag

I recently found Whimsical Frippery‘s blog (aka Poppy) and am very impressed with the variety of projects she shares there. Today I’m going to feature her Beaker Bag, because who doesn’t love a little Beaker in their life. Imagine the conversation starter this project would be!

Light Saber Knitting Needles

It’s like a Saturday Star Wars two for one today!Random Canadian has posted intructions on how to make light saber knitting needles, over at Instructables.

The materials needed for this project include a 3/8″ Lucite rod, several key-chain LED flashlights, a red LED, a green LED, 2 X 10 Ohm resistor, heat shrink tubing,
120 sand paper, a Scotch-Brite pad, and a 10 Ohm resistor. It can’t be a terribly difficult project, as Random Canadian said another smaller set of needles were also made.

“The cyano glue makes the cut ends optically pure when the plastic bits are joined, as long as there are not big tool marks… I found this out on a previous project. saves quite a bit of time by not having to polish the ends.”

So the next time you find yourself battling the dark side of the yarn, or you just want to knit in the dark, whip up a set of these babies for all your nerd knitting needs!
