More Cosplay From Figments & Filaments in KC
This is the last of Figments and Filaments, a new cosplay convention in KC. They had several really awesome costumes on display, including this really well made 18th century suit (a cutaway coat, waistcoat, and breeches). All you need are hose, heeled shoes with buckles, ribbons, and a wig. Men knew how to dress in the 1700s.
This 18th century red gown was constructed using a historical pattern that the seamstress adapted. Check out how wide those panniers are!
Henry VIII is perhaps one of the most famous men in history, as is his signature look shown above.
This lovely kimono provided another example of excellent costume construction on display.
This 19th century gown provided a nice counterpart to the 18th century style shown above. It continually amazes me how fashion has evolved over the centuries.
There were some nice examples of Steampunk costumes on display as well. I particularly liked the picture window in the woman’s under bust corset, as well as her layered, tattered looking tulle skirt.
The gentleman’s look gives a great example of how you can put together a costume with easy-to-find items, as long as you’ve got the right accessories. It’s the hat and weaponry that really make this costume. Though, the pin tuck detailing on the pants is very nice.
This steampunk costume was built with a mixture of upcycled pieces. The corset is by far my favorite part of the ensemble. Check out all the detailing with the seaming, the grommets, and the rivets.
Here’s a closer look at that corset.
That’s it for the 2015 Figments & Filaments in KC. If you’re in the area, consider checking it out next year, or maybe even starting your own cosplay convention!
