Merry Christmas Eve, everyone. Just in case you need a little mental break from everything Christmas, here’s a fun cross stitch project.

Kittykill of Oregon posted this finished project on Craftster last week. She made it for her husband’s birthday, because he loves, “The Blues Brothers.” Kittykill said she loves the stencil street vibe of the pattern: all black thread on white cloth.

And to finish off with a Christmas touch, if you’ve little ones that believe in Santa Claus, sit down with them tonight before bed and get on the internet to check out NORAD’s Santa Tracker. And if your kids don’t believe in Santa, well, check it out with them anyway. This is actually a really cute site.

Hidden Mickey Disney Cross Stitch

I’m an avid reader of Epbot, a blog about geekery, girliness and goofing off. Jen Yates, who also writes Cake Wrecks, is an avid fan of all things Disney. And while I am not and haven’t ever been to Disneyland or Disneyworld, have learned a thing or two about the House of Mouse from Jen. Such as, did you know there are hidden Mickey Mouse heads all over the parks? That’s what I thought of when I saw this cross stitch project.

Amigurl55 recently posted this project on Craftster. It took her about a month and a half to complete, and the finished size is about 13″x12″. I count 28 different Disney characters and a variety of icons associated with them.

Bob Ross in Cross Stitch

Chellum, a member of Crafster from Ottawa, recently posted this little cross stitch pattern of our favorite public television painter,Bob Ross. Bob Ross was an American painter, art instructor, and television host. He was best known as the creator and host of “The Joy of Painting,” an instructional television program that aired from 1983 to 1994 on PBS in the United States, and also aired in Canada, Mexico and Europe. Ross was well known for the catchphrases he used while painting such as “happy little trees.”

Chellum bought the pattern from Hug Sandwich, of Salt Lake City, on Etsy, for just $5.

Hug Sandwich has a variety of pop culture patterns available, and does custom cross stitch patterns as well.

Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding Cross Stitches

Rebecca from Aurora, IL posted this image of two cross stitch hoops she created, over at Craftster.

She said she saw a Kickstarter campaign a few weeks ago to make a Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding museum in a Brooklyn apartment. She donated $5 to the cause and (jokingly) tweeted, asking if they were taking submissions. The group contacted her back and said they definitely wanted some cross stitches. Rebecca’s husband designed them and she did the stitching.

And in case you’re a Nancy or Tonya fan, you can find the Kickstarter campaign here. They had 150 backers pledging $2,036 to help bring this project to life, to convert a hallway in their apartment into the Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding 1994 museum..

How About A Free Darth Vader Cross Stitch Pattern?

I love finding free pattern downloads, and this one is especially cute with it’s little Darth Vader. Username Avozika has this design as well as a few others (including a rather pithy Chuck Norris design) for download on her Instructables page.

Star Wars Cross Stitch

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away… or possibly in LA. There was a tapestry to end all tapestries on display. The tapestry, tells the entire story of Star Wars in cross stitch with text, below is the artists description of the work.

A hand-stitched cotton thread on 30 foot of continuous length of 7 stitch per inch Klostern fabric. Stiffened with a thin batting and hemmed with a custom-made printed pixel star farbric on rear. This cross-stitch tapestry depicts the Star Wars saga (so far) from Episode 1 through Episode 6. Quotes from each movie are written in Aurebesh on the surrounding border. Chanelling the Bayeux Tapestry.

That is an epic work.
