Rocking Ride-In Spaceship

rocking_ride_in_spaceship_by_steveswoodentoys-d83y48p

Steve of Steve’s Wooden Toys of New Zealand, posted this Rocking Ride-In X-Wing Fighter on Deviant Art.

The little R2-D2 in the back is removable so he can accompany the pilot to the swamps of wooden Degobah. The rocker is made of solid wood: pine, native macrocarpa and rimu. It measures 1150 mm (45 inches) long, 1200 mm (47 inches) wide, 650 mm (25.5 inches) tall, and the seating area is 280 mm (9 inches) wide. The wings can also be unbolted to allow for ease of intergalactic travel in the back of a medium sized car.

Guardians of Geekdoms

Hello All! I’m sure most of you have seen Guardians of the Galaxy by now (and if you haven’t, why?? Go, go! I’ll wait.). Baby Groot is undoubtedly one of the cutest things to hit the big screen, and I joined the masses in trying to create my own version of him for a friend’s Christmas gift.

Since I couldn’t find any plushie versions, I decided to make my own, and documented the process so I could make a Baby Groot tutorial!

Baby Groot Tutorial

There’s only one baby Groot that I believe is cuter than mine:

baby as baby groot

Featured on FashionablyGeek, Reddit user S7ar-lord’s wife made this costume for their baby boy for Halloween, and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn tweeted the picture, saying he was “out-cuted”.

If retro-media is more your style, there’s crafts for you too! First, in honor of the “Awesome Mix Vol. 1” that Peter Quill aka Starlord listens to, 30MinuteCrafts created a printable cassette tape box, perfect for any cosplay, or just a geeky place to keep things!

If you’re looking for a place to keep your valuables, Paul Mason the DIY Guy, from Geek & Sundry Vlogs, has posted a cassette tape wallet video tutorial so you can protect your cards and ID in a truly awesome way.

Hope that’s enough geeky awesomeness for you, and happy crafting!

Geeky Free Printable Valentines

StarWarsValentinesPrintables

It’s never too early to get started on those Valentines, and I’ve found some great ones for Star Wars and Doctor Who fans.

The first series of valentines are designs from Alecia at AleciaDawn Photography.  She’s got seven separate designs, all of them epic, and all of them perfect for kids and adults (and anyone in between).  All you have to do is download and print them out on some card stock.

DoctorWhoValentinesPrintable

The second series I found while exploring the wilds of the intarwebz are valentines from Heidi Schulz and her blog Frantically Simple.  These exploit my ultimate weakness, Doctor Who.  These are definitely worth traveling through space and time, but you’ll only have to download them and print them out on some card stock to enjoy.

ZombieValentinesPrintables

The last series of valentines I found are from Hanasaurusrex!  Nothing says “I love you” like zombies, so look no further for Valentine’s Day cards than here!

Star Wars Craft: Crochet Twi’lek Hat

Star Wars Twilek hat by Sara Jean

CostumeWrangler recently shared a round-up of Geeky Winter Hat patterns – here’s another one you might want to get to hookin’: Sara Jean’s crochet Twi’lek Hat from Star Wars.

Sara Jean designed the hat to look like Aayla Secura, a Twi’lek Jedi Knight seen largely in Star Wars comics and the Clone Wars animated series, as well as Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. The hat pattern looks like it’s pretty quick to stitch up, and averages 4 out of 5 stars on Ravelry. Pretty impressive, considering Sara Jean was 12 when she wrote the pattern!

Might this hat make it into your con cosplay for the year? We’d love to hear in the comments below!

A Selection of Timey Wimey Gifty Goodness

tardis bookshelf

Even though Christmas is over, there’s been a glut of really cool Doctor Who-inspired gifts all over the internet. They’re too cool to pass up, so here’s a quick rundown of some of the best ones I’ve seen. First up, the homemade TARDIS bookshelf. There’s an entire photo album online at Imgur, showing details like the hidden compartments. It was built by the poster’s boyfriend for Christmas.

Next up, a TARDIS quilt, also courtesy of Imgur!

If you check out the online album of this, you’ll see the poster, jgcox00’s new timey “wifey” (seewhutidid there? har har har, made myself laugh), even took the time to outline weeping angels in the TARDIS window stitching!

Last up, the same poster even got an understated TARDIS duffle bag.

tardis duffle

On the outside, it looks like a very nice blue patchwork duffle. However, start looking inside the pockets and inside the bag, and everything is lined with a different kind of Doctor Who fabric, with some very nice detail work.
