Makeup Artist Uses Hijab To Transform Into Disney Princesses

tumblr_inline_o35wftIs331qk37z0_1280.png.cfMalaysian makeup artist Saraswati (also know as Queen of Luna) loves Disney – and she doesn’t let the fact that she wears a hijab hinder her from expressing her obsession.

Saraswati has shared more than 300 looks including Batman, Tinker Bell, Mulan, Jafar and Alice in Wonderland. While some might opt to dye their hair or wear wigs, the mother-of-two completely transforms herself using coloured hijabs. It’s pretty impressive.

The artist has built up a huge fan base, now followed by more than 184k people, with many of them starting to make their own character requests, and others simply fans.

These Are The Shoes You’re Looking For

BB8Shoes

I know I’ve posted shoe tutorials before, and there are certainly a lot of them out there, but this BB-8 Heels Tutorial is intense. To make your own BB-8 heels you’ll need to know how to weld, because that’s how user mikeasaurus attached the new 2.5″ steel post that supports the shoe and sports the rotating body of the cutest little droid ever.  The tutorial is great, complete with step-by-step pictures and detailed instructions.  If you’re like me and perhaps find welding a bit beyond your skill set, then maybe try adapting this cute shoe design to a pair of flats. Either way, these shoes would be a big hit at your next convention!

When traveling through all of time and space, it helps to have a path. Pave the way with these DIY Doctor Who Stepping Stones, thanks to Our Nerd Home.

One of many geektastic tutorials on their site, the Stepping Stones how-t0 (ahem) steps you through the whole process from pro tips for mixing up the Quikrete, to the Gallifreyan translator app they used.

For their project, they of course chose to spell out, “Our” “Nerd” “Home” + “Geek,” but with a translator, you could make your stones spell out whatever you like. What would you spell with your stones? Share with us in a comment below!

‘Blasphemous’ Brazilian Artist Under Fire For Turning Religious Figures Into Pop Culture Icons

While this might not be everyone’s cup of creative tea, I thought it was pretty clever. Brazilian artist, Ana Smile, has created a bit of controversy with her company Santa Blasphemy, which creates plaster religious statues painted in the form of pop-culture icons such as Batman, Frida Kahlo, Catwoman, Captain Hopper, The Joker, and Minnie Mouse. (Quick note: her Facebook page is in Portuguese but there are still some really great pictures of her work there.)

Reportedly, angry emails from offended Catholics have been sent petitioning the local government to do something about the “blasphemous” paint jobs, but the government has not attempted to intervene. Since then, the artist has been bombarded with outraged Facebook and Instagram messages.

Because I don’t speak Portuguese, I can only guess Ana uses some sort of clay, along with craft paints and a really good sealer, to create her works. Personally, I’m not Catholic, so what she does with her statues doesn’t affect me, but I have to admit, I like these and wouldn’t mind one to mix in with my painted KISS gnomes.

Rey’s Portion Bread

reys instant bread

I’ve been on a bit of a cooking kick lately, thanks to a couple new cookbooks, but this recipe…I need to squeeze this one into the menu. It’s Rey’s Portion Bread, from The Force Awakens!

Now you can recreate this magical meal by making your own version of Rey’s Portion Bread in under a minute. Pour the ingredients into a cup, add liquid and heat, and just like that — you’ve got a fluffy, sweet, portable bread ready to take with you to the junk fields. In reading the recipe, I can only guess the pistachio green color comes from the matcha powder.

Ingredients:
1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil
4 tablespoons cake flour
1-1/2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon matcha powder
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
2 tablespoons whole milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:
1. Place the oil in a mug and swirl around to grease the inside.
2. Add the cake flour, sugar, matcha powder, baking powder and salt into the mug, stirring together.
3. Pour in the milk and vanilla, then cook in the microwave on high for 45 seconds.
4. Let cool slightly and serve.

It’s the perfect little snack to make for your own little scavenger after a busy day of work.
