The TARDIS Trunk

The mom over at Addled Adventures blogged about the trunk she recently made over as the TARDIS. She passed a garage sale on hermy way home from work and came across a very beaten up trunk. They were actually selling the stuffed animals inside of it and you got the trunk for free. For $5, she bought the trunk and donated the stuffed animals to charity. Someone had painted the outside of the trunk bright green and then used green and pink shelf paper to line the inside.

Mom scraped and cleaned the trunk as best she could, and peeled away all of the shelf paper. Using sandpaper, a paint scraper, and buffer, she worked on the inside until it was clean enough to look slightly presentable.

After spray painting it blue, Mom laser cut the door panels. She designed the windows and door signs, then and laser cut from Rowmark Flexicolor White/Black with 3M backing. The Police Box sign was also designed by Mom and laser cut from Rowmark Flexicolor Black/White with 3M backing.

Wee Witch’s Cottage

Pottermouth of Savannah, GA recently uploaded a series of photos of her miniature witch’s cottage to Craftster, and it is amazing!

The project began with Alpha Stamps Magic Potions kit which is a mini 2.5″ x 2″ tin, lots of tiny bottles, resin skulls, some DIY bottles and stoppers, collage sheets, an eye charm, and a crystal ball! The lid of the tin was removed and she left the hinges pulled out to hang a charm and key from the bottom. Alcohol inks were used to color the edges, and then the rest was covered in paper from the Tiny Vintage Scrapbook collage sheet. The little shelf is simply a piece of painted balsa wood. Some of the bottles and stoppers were made with beads that are also in the kit, and she used the most microscopic labels from the Secret Spell Book collage sheet. Sharpies were even used to color in the liquid inside the bottles. She turned the kit into a potions shelf for a witch, which was a tiny little thing itself. What to do and how to display it? Hmmmmm…

She built a cottage to display the shelf. Problem solved!

She used a sheet of quality foam board and a sheet of dollar store foam board to make the walls. Pottermouth got the rocking chair and fireplace at Alpha Stamps and the hutch was in the stash. Balsa was used to make the table and ratty picture frame.

If I were small enough, I’d want to move right into this great little room!

Tattoo Artist’s Incredible Disney Villains for 8-Year-Old

This entry actually comes from a non-geeky place: Yahoo! News, in an article by Makenzie Koch. 8-year-old Hope Laliberte has been wearing leg braces for the past four years, but not just any leg braces. Her first pair had skulls and crossbones on the back. Her second pair featured Batman and Spider-Man.

When it was time to get new braces, Hope didn’t even consider princesses or hearts and rainbows. She only wanted one thing — Disney villains.

Hope wanted braces that showcased Ursula, the evil sea witch from “The Little Mermaid,” and Cruella de Vil, the fashion foe of “101 Dalmatians.” But the brace clinic at Boston Children’s Hospital where Hope has her braces fitted didn’t carry such designs, only a limited sample book from which children can choose from. “They offer all different types of little girl designs, but she wasn’t having any of that,” says the mom.

So Laliberte-Lebeau turned to family friend and tattoo artist Aaron Guillemette to make Hope’s wish come true. She ordered light pink braces, and sent them to Guillemette, who owns tattoo shop Up in Flames in Fall River, to do a custom design.

The light pink braces are made of a resin and acrylic plastic, which made the process difficult when Guillemette tried to apply paint directly to the braces, according to a story published recently by The Herald News. Instead, he drew the characters on sticker paper and painted them with acrylic paint. After several drafts, he attached the papers to Hope’s braces and coated them in polyurethane to protect the art work.

Hope’s new braces now have her two favorite Disney villains on the back complete with evil eels, Dalmatian spots, and Hope’s name.

It’s Elementary, Shersocks

Is it just me, or has it been waaaaay too long since there’s been a new BBC Sherlock episode? January 2014 was FOREVER ago! Word is there will be a one-off Christmas special (set in 1895! Interesting!) this year, with the fourth season/series of three new episodes in filming in spring 2016.

Until then, there are seasons/series 1-3 to binge watch, and this lovely sock pattern by Megan-Anne Llama, of Geek-A-Long fame, to cast on to your needles. She aptly named it Shersocks.

She did a spot-on job recreating Sherlock’s iconic wallpaper in the colorwork chart, complete with the yellow smiley face, and a contrasting bright yellow heel. Aren’t they fantastic?

Skyrim Craft: Keening Dagger

You have admire some people’s dedication to their craft. Because he is so committed to attention to detail in his prop building, Bill Doran from Punished Props spent 10  hours on Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim gameplay to get just the right screen grabs of the Keening dagger. After he had the images, he crafted the schematics and got to work with resin, foam PVC, styrene, and Bondo. And a toilet paper tube. Lord Kagrenac, Chief Tonal Architect of the Dwemer, would be proud to own such a fine piece.

Did you ever wonder what the Doctor’s closet might look like?

SheepBlue, a craftster from Ann Arbor, MI, decided to craft up a tiny version of the Doctor’s very own closet.

She repurposed a simple wood box from Michael’s, and gave it an uneven Tardis blue staining. In the closet, SheepBlue included a spare spare key, emergency party bananas, a copy of Summer Falls and An Angel’s Kiss, *gasp* TWO Weeping Angel children (how did they get there! Don’t blink!), River Song’s party heels, a tropical umbrella (you never know when you’re going to need festively bright umbrella), a portrait of River Song, Vincent’s hat, the Doctor’s fez, an extra Christmas tree decoration, an extra psychic paper book, a copy of the Don’t Blink tapes on disc, oh, and a sword. Because the Doctor might need a sword someday…for some reason…
