Germy Genius

http://cornflowerbluestudio.blogspot.com/2012/02/petri-dish-mini-quilt.htmlI am in love (that’s the only Valentine’s reference you’re getting. I’m one of those awful smug-coupled types who ignores Val’s day because they can have romance any old day they want. Sorry.) with this Petri dish mini quilt by Rachel over at  Cornflower Blue Studio.

It uses all different kinds of embroidery thread and quilting to make it a really touchable textured piece – perfect for people like me who always want to poke the squishy agar but normally have to refrain for fear of contamination; this one you can play with all you like.

Rachel is entering this piece into The Festival of Alabama Fibre Arts, where she will also be teaching a hyperbolic crochet class. I’m sure we all wish her well with the competition, and all of us not living in the Southern US are a little jealous that we won’t get to come learn from such an uber-geek-crafter.

Dalek Victory!

Dalek Victory

This one is more like a victory over the Daleks with its detail and accuracy. It’s an amazing cross stitch Shae made of the Daleks’ Victory poster from Season 6 of Doctor Who. Not only has she managed to chart and stitch this out, but Shae was kind enough to share the charts for this cross stitched poster here.

Shae is a multitalented crafter who also does machine embroidery and paper piece quilting among others. Her crafting can also be found in her Etsy shop, ShaeWow. You might want to be aware that her items sometimes have adult phrases on them but she has items from various fandoms and in different media.

I choose you, Bulbasaur!

Over the past year or so, we’ve seen pixelated Spock quilts and then it morphed into Mario afghans. Now, SoreLoser has taken it one step further. WOW!, her afghan is amazing!

SoreLoser has created Bulbasaur in large crochet form! Being a relative newcomer to crochet, the amount of individual little squares needed to create this piece boggles my mind. I give her an A++ for Vision AND Perseverance!

Friday Roundup: Muppet Crafts!

Quite aware that I am dating myself, I have fond memories of watching “The Muppet Show” when it was actually on TV (which premiered in 1976 – groan…). As my husband also shares an affection for the distinctive puppets, our kids have grown up with the movies as well – one of our Christmas traditions is to watch The Muppet Christmas Carol. Good times. We’re quite looking forward to the next installment, when “The Muppets” launches on November 23rd.

So for today’s roundup, I thought I would offer up to you a bounty of Muppet-related craftastic goodness. First up, a fabulous crochet Animal hat, from Etsy shopowner, TeeterTotterTot.

Beaker is one of my favorite characters, so I love the idea of the two of these guys “peeking out” from a framed cross-stitch (PDF pattern available from LizzyStitches). How could you look at this on your wall and not smile?

This Kermit the Frog cup cozy looks like a quick and easy Muppet craft – and kid-friendly, too, since it’s from Disney Family Crafts.
