Book Bracelets

All good book worms should show off their favorite novels.  This Harry Potter Book Bracelet is just one of the many items that Etsy user pandatreats has available in their shop.  They also take custom requests so you can get all your favorite books or manga, and they ship them off as bracelets, necklaces, earrings, keychains, charms, and more.  The only question now is, which of your favorite books do you choose?

New to the Crew

Hello out there! Now that the frenzy of the holidays has wound down, I can take a breath, break out my crafts, and properly introduce myself as one of the new members of the Geek Crafts crew.

I’m Sherezada, an indie filmmaker and writer. I’ve been a card-carrying geek since I was a kid. Some of my favorites include the original Star Wars trilogy, J.R.R. Tolkien, video games (especially BioWare-made games), horror-comedy films, and comic books.

I love showing my geek pride through my needlework, like this piece I stitched up of Nibbler from Futurama, and my Han Solo cross stich sampler. I also dabble in knitting and sewing, though I’m still getting the hang of both.

You can see my crafty and culinary adventures on my blog, Hand/Eye/Mind/Mouth, or follow my video game related rantings at Electronic Wasteland.

Here’s to a new year filled with Geek Crafts goodness!

‘Ello!

I’m Lauren Lynne, another new writer excited to be a part of Geek Crafts.  I’m a Knitter and all around geek.  I’ve knit more Harry Potter scarves than I care to mention, and recently started designing my own patterns.  I take inspiration from geeky books, movies, and life in general.  I’m a bibliophile with a preference for fantasy novels.  My current favorites are Jim Butcher and Patrick Rothfuss.  You can check out my thoughts on knitting and pop culture on my blog, The Knitting Bibliophile.

New Kid on the Block

Hi! I’m very excited to be joining the Geek Crafts crew! I spend my time in mostly sunny Southern California working as a health care professional, occasionally crafting and quite frequently geeking out over tv shows, movies, science, Harry Potter, zombies and more.

As for crafting, I enjoy sewing tote bags, especially with kawaii Japanese fabrics, crocheting amigurumi hamsters and making pom-pom hamsters with a variety of personalities (See “Super Hamster” to the left). I’ve self published three books of poetry and photos inspired by my love of various rodents. Also, I’ve been a vendor at local craft fairs and San Diego Comic-Con with the Tired Girl Collective.

I’m looking forward to finding lots of awesome geek crafts to share with you.

Sci-Fine Art, Humor and Time Machines with Rik Livingston

There aren’t a lot of nice things about living in the desert, at least not until Fall/Winter time, but one nice thing about living here is the amazing Crossroads Cafe and Tavern, where I was having breakfast when the painting to the left caught my eye. I took in the various pieces by the artist I would later discover was the one Rik Verlin Livingston, and I knew I had to track him down and introduce my Geek Crafters to his “Sci-Fine Art“.

We communicated in e-mails a few times before I met Rik at an artist reception held at the Joshua Tree Chamber of Commerce, which featured more of his work, to include some really great comic books. He was friendly, funny, and seemed to handle the attention (and the controversy surrounding one of his pieces) very well. I was really excited to be able to ask a few questions about his craft, his feelings on censorship, and of course, time travel.
