Home is Where the Hearthstone is

World of Warcraft crochet hearthstone

My husband and kids were quick to jump on the World of Warcraft bandwagon when it was introduced in 2004. It’s hard to believe it will be 10 years next year! Due to their continued interest in the game, I immediately recognized this Ravelry Hearthstone project. With the holidays nearly upon us, perhaps you could use a hearthstone to return you to those you hold nearest and dearest?

Fitting in the palm of your hand, this cute amigurumi project would make a great stocking stuffer.

A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words

I have this obsession with typography. It is one of the coolest forms of art there is. I continue to try my hand at it, and sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. Then there are those times where I come across people who have this amazing talent for it and I’m just flabbergasted.

Skahfee Studios is one of those people. Ranging in geeky typography from Star Wars to World of Warcraft to Doctor Who. All of these pieces of art are amazing. Each made out of quotes or lines from famous TV shows and movies, all constructed to make beautiful pictures.

Soft spot for a troll softie

I spent many, many a year inhabiting the body of Roseblood, a troll mage, my wild World of Warcraft days. Trolls were a terrible choice, game-play wise. They had no compelling “race” bonus and their large feet meant that acquiring new footwear was meaningless, shoe-wise, since my feet were too big for the in-game shoe models. And what kind of fantasy world is that?  One in which you never, ever get to admire your cute new shoes?

Nevertheless, the troll life was for me: birthed among the red rocks of Durotar, swimming to exotic islands to fight the evil voodoo of rival troll tribes, gathering tiger fur, the rebellious tusks, the wild hair. Good times.

That love and dedication to the life of a troll comes across 125% in this troll plushie from twocheeseplease.  He is so sweet I’ll forgive him for being a hunter (my greatest PVP nemesis). Check out his cute little quiver! According to twocheeseplease, his eyes are hand painted and he is sporting yarn hair along with, “very manly tusks, a super soft minky body, and microfleece accessories.”

Manly and minky indeed!  As Roseblood would likely say, “”You’re the type I’d like to sink my teeth into!”See more of twocheeseplease’s amazing work:

A Christmas Stocking to Make You Go “WOW”!

A few years ago I considered myself quite clever for printing a screenshot of World of Warcraft‘s Grandfather Winter on label paper and slapping it on a CD to make a Christmas ornament for my son. Oh, the shame, when I compare that to this amazing stocking project.

World of Warcraft cross-stitch Christmas stocking

Amy Campbell recently shared this stocking project in the Geeks United in Crafts Facebook group, and I had to immediately run over and share it here. Here’s how she described the project on her blog, A Harpy’s Point of View:

It was “a surprise gift for friends we met through World of Warcraft and their delightful little son… I took screenshots from the game World of Warcraft to get Grandfather Winter (aka Santa) and the tree from Orgrimmar. I then got pictures of my friends’ characters off the Armory. I shopped the three images together, including some presents from under the tree. Next, I made a patter using PC Stitch Pro.”

Seriously, as my son described it, legit. He also forgave me for my unimaginative ornament.

Now surely, I can get one of these whipped out by Christmas Eve, right?

Also, don’t forget GeekCraft founder Shayne is looking for Garden gnome projects for her ebook.
