Geek Onsies

Creator Rossie says:

“Iron-on transfer paper exists because I *heart* Daleks.  And so should my baby, darn it.  Though if it turns out to be a boy that bow could get awkward.”

I know exactly what she means! I’ve recently made my peace with iron-on transfer paper. I always thought it looked really bad and anything with the words ‘iron on’ always seemed like a cop out, but crafters like Rossie are rapidly changing my mind. I can see myself making a batch of onesies and bibs this way. I love embroidery, but it just takes so LONG!

Follow the link and you’ll also find a “World of Warcraft – level one human” onesie and “I may be a noob but I just pwned my nappy” onesie

Just so cute.

What do you think, inkjet transfer paper, yay or nay?

Pipe cleaner Thrall

Wow, did I ever stumble upon a gem. The WoW Insider blog has a feature called World of WarCrafts that features, in their words, “art and creativity by WoW players, including fan art, cooking, comics, cosplay, music and fan fiction”. It is an absolute treasure trove of geek crafts!!

Chris Schultz, b/k/a Toepher, creates a variety of geeky figures out of nothing but pipe cleaner. They’re all amazing, but my eye was capured most intensely by his sculpture of Thrall.

When his work was featured on World of Warcrafts, Toepher talked about the process of building such intircate art: “The process is simple — well, simple to me, but to someone watching me make pipe cleaner characters, it can be kind of dumbfounding…I guess you can say I just have at it.”

If you’re any kind of WoW gamer/crafter at all, you MUST check out his stuff!

Fleece Dragon Age Plushies

Dragon Age dolls by eitanyaI’ve been eyeing Jo Roberts’s (AKA Etianya) amazingly detailed fleece plushies, hats, and scarves on DeviantART for a while now. Not just for their warm snuggliness, but because they are beautifully hand-crafted pieces of geek art.

She’s captured characters from video games such as Final Fantasy, Super Mario Bros., and World of Warcraft. The ones that stole this Bioware geek’s heart, though, were her Dragon Age: Origins plushies.

Not only has she made some adorable stand-alone dolls of party faves Alistair, Morrigan, and Zevran, she’s also indulged the romantic side of her clients by custom-making dolls of their Gray Warden with their tru wuv. Even sweeter, she’s designed them with magnets so they can kiss.

Say it with me: “D’aaaaw!”

Another Intro!

Hello everyone!  I’m Leitadala, one of your new geek craft writers.  I’ve finally finished making my Christmas crafts, and before the January ones come due I figured I’d introduce myself here.  I’m a varied crafter, but my strongest are fiber arts.  The crocheting comes by nature, the knitting by nurture.  What I mean by that is that my Step-Grandmothter taught me to knit when I was young, and when I was older I felt compelled to pick up the crochet hook.  I found I loved it, and then learned from my maternal Grandmother that her Grandmother used to crochet all the time!  I’ve since passed down both crafts to the next generation of girls in my family, hoping that they will keep this timeless tradition alive.

I come by the geek part honestly as well.  I love Star Wars, World of Warcraft (where I met my husband), Pokemon, Disney, Anime, Renissance Festivals, and (of course) Comic Cons.  I look forward to sharing with you lots of geek-crafty things in the future.

Until then, I better go wrap my Christmas African Flower dishcloths!

Geektastic Easter Eggs

John at Superpunch featured these amazing Geeky Easter Eggs, and I thought I would share it today so anyone who is like me, and waits until the night before Easter to decorate eggs can try some of these amazing ideas!

Above is the Bender egg, the binary egg and the soon-to-be ever-so-popular Yoda egg. On Superpunch you will also find some other really amazing Easter eggs including World Of Warcraft, Kiss and Aqua Teen Hungerforce inspired eggs, as well as Domokun and some cool “egg scenes”. This is one way to totally geek-a-fy your Easter celebration and show off how artistic you are (or, as it may turn out–aren’t).
