How-To: Kerbal Space Program Costumes

Halloween is but 44 days away, meaning you only have 7 weekends left to finish your costume. Haven’t even thought of an idea yet? Well, allow me to suggest Kerbals from The Kerbal Space Program!

Kerbal Space Program Custome

Reddit user awallick has posted a great How-To for these Kerbal costumes that he and his friends created for Dragon Con this year, showing the ingenious process which includes paper macheing over gym balls to create the monstrous space helmets. Click here to see how the KSP costumes were created.

Looking forward to more great costume ideas in the run up to Halloween. Have one of your own? Let us know in the comments below.

Burdastyle’s Halloween Competition: the Cute and the Geeky!

If you havn’t entered Burdastyle’s Bernina Halloween Competition this year you’re too late! but here are my picks of this years cutest and geekiest offerings:

I absolutely have to stress that this is just a small snapshot of the HUNDREDS of entries, you burdastylers have really cranked it up a notch this year! See the whole list of entries here.

My ABSOLUTE favourite is Sassy-Pantslight up Angler Fish Costume just for the fact that it will probably genuinely scare the bejesus out of anyone who’s lucky/unlucky enough to be on Sissy-Pants’ boy’s trick or treating route.

Dmajen‘s Ash Ketchum costume, Ananda473‘s Buzz Lightyear costume and Suewanda‘s Link Costume (not pictured), all get credit for being super accurate and detailed.

While Vivat Veritas Flower and Bee Costume, Lsekiya‘s Angry Birds Pig Costume, Ananda473‘s Toy Story Alien Costume, JessicaScissor‘s Ewok Costume, Dneimat‘s Dinosaur Costume and Sparney‘s Sushi Costume, all get the ‘dawww!!’ award for dressing your freaking adorable babies and toddlers in the most geeky and eye-wateringly cute costumes imaginable.

Well Done everyone!

You can vote for your favourite on the BurdaStyle Site from 25th October until midnight EST on Sunday, October 30th!

Dr. Who Costumes

Kelly Szpunar at HunkyDory comes up with the best stuff. When this originally landed in my inbox I was thrilled, then disappointed as Halloween was over and geek crafts had been pretty well costumed…but after some discussion, it was decided that these amazing Doctor Who Costumes were too cool to hang onto until next year. The Doctor is so well done! And the take on the Dalek is too cool, I love that it is an “outfit” made to look Dalek-y and not a full Dalek suit made of carboard and spray painted tennis balls! And the super Doctor Who geek in me is thrilled that someone went as a TARDIS, since the TARDIS is supposed to be a living entity, after all.

Renee’s Top 3 Costumes

When we decided to each pick our top three Halloween costumes from the last two months, I knew I had a tough job ahead of me. We found so much pure gold this year, and it was really hard to choose just three, but I did my best. So without further adieu, my top three:

The Yip Yips by Tracy Lawson, they are sparkly, cute, and nostalgic! What more could you want? And if you’re going to be an adult in a Sesame Street costume, please, please, do not dress up as Elmo!

Two: Baby Elvis Costume! Seriously, at what other time has a kid so small rocked so much (I’m excluding toddlers with mohawks for this one)? CuriousFae did an awesome job on this one! (via craftster).

And last but not least: THE GORE! Halloween is historically about death and ghosts, and GORE, why else did I rent three horror movies to watch tonight? The Dissection Costume wins on the gore factor! To make it even cooler, jessicution didn’t go to the Halloween super store to pick this number up, it is all made from scratch, even the fake blood! Totally awesome! (via craftster).
