Crafty Copper Cane

If you’ve watched the creation of the Lady Vadore costume with as much fascination as I have, you might be interested to know that Jen has posted a tutorial on how to make an illuminated copper cane like the one she carried. It’s pretty sweet, and it could totally work with any number of costumes. Apparently you do need a Dremel drill press, but if you’re gonna do lots of crafts, that might just be a worthwhile investment.

Steampunk Lightsaber Awesomeness

Eventually I will stop posting about Jen Yates and her Lady Vadore costume, but I’m so intrigued! The pieces all look so cool—I can’t wait to see the final result. Anyway, in addition to the steampunk Darth Vader mask/helmet tutorial, she’s now posted a tutorial for a similarly steampunk lightsaber. Which, incidentally, doubles as a nifty nightlight. And, really, who doesn’t want a steampunk lightsaber nightlight?

Comically Cool Shoes

Now I know what I should have done with that container of Mod Podge that I had kicking around my craft box for…well, years. I should have made awesome shoes like these rad Batgirl babies, courtesy of Giant Dorkgasm proprietress The Dorktress. I could have She-Ra shoes! Of course, I’d have to dig up all the old mini-comics that came with the dolls, and they’re probably kicking around my grandparents’ attic. Hm. Maybe this isn’t practical. Though that hasn’t stopped me before….

Thanks to fellow Dorkgasm blogger Zack H. for sending me the link!

A Truly Super (Mario) Party

piranha plant Handmade piranha plants? Stompable balloon Goombas? A DIY chain chomp piñata? Homemade mushroom cupcakes? This has got to be the best Super Mario-themed birthday party ever! I hope this kid appreciated it—it was only his fourth birthday. I’d be pretty psyched if someone threw me a party that awesome now, and I’m 31.

Is that a Dalek dress?

Why yes, yes it is. Color me impressed. So impressed, in fact, that I’ll admit that Daleks kind of turned me off of Dr. Who at first. In fact, I first met them during a sewing project.

I was working on something challenging and the show was playing in the background.  My sewing project hit a frustrating snag and all I  heard in the background was that horrible >>EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE<< and I.just. got. stressed. out.

The way my story ended was with a poorly hemmed pair of fuzzy pig print pajama pants and a moratorium on Dr. Who in my house (or at least in my presence). I do not have the skill and tenacity of somevelvetmorning, who produced with sewing poetry (also known as sewitry).

She shares the step-by-step instructions with us to attempt to replicate her awesomeness.:

Sweetly Sinful

I must confess to a certain fondness for the collected creations of Sweetheart Sinner. I own three necklaces and have given two pins as gifts. They’re nicely handmade and run the gamut of themes ranging from zombies to macabre Victoriana to straight-up pinup girls to steampunk. I tend to prefer the less ‘shopped images (some of them look a bit obviously edited); if you’re curious, my purchases included a Judy-Garland-as-Dorothy necklace no longer for sale, this women’s vanity illusion necklace, and this charming saucy mermaid necklace.
