It’s bigger on the inside!

It's bigger on the inside!O-mazing!!!  I wish I had this block style door just so I could paint it blue <3

Flickr user normaljean has this TARDIS door in her home, and there’s even a gallery of photos showing the work in progress.   A musician and general artist, she definitely has awesome work, so check out her photostream for fun crafts and adventures! (adorable mini felted things! omg!!)

Stained Glass Test Pattern

Stained Glass Test Pattern

Hello everyone!  Kim here :)  Since I’m one of the GC newbies, allow me to introduce myself…  by day I am a professional photographer and graphic artist living and working in the (now) thriving arts district of central Ohio.  When not doing photography related work, I spend my time off the computer– crafting and designing things usually relating to Doctor Who, Harry Potter, science, or the newest meme.  I’d likely shrivel up and creatively die if I wasn’t always working on *something*, and I think it’s important to enjoy the process, and also to leave things better than I found them.

I’m very honored and excited to be a part of this blog, and can’t wait to find all you geeks out there more supercool things to look at!!  Oh, and make sure to follow all my newest shenanigans at http://blkpixel.tumblr.com.

On to the good stuff!  This is one killer TV test pattern done in stained glass… It apparently belongs to TV/Video production guru Peter Roof of the Washington, DC area.  I think it’s the perfect combination of subtle geekery and bold clean lines of color, and also easy to recreate if you’re handy with a soldering iron!  I found this bad boy on Make: a DIY/Project site.

Did I mention it also travels in time?

The Doctor Who Round 4 swap is nearly finished over at Craftster, and there is some great stuff! My absolute favorite though is the stained glass TARDIS clock thefett made for his partner Ryn (he also made the Master’s laser screwdriver. Seriously, go look). The mirror totally works as the time vortex. I really want this clock! The mirror apparently broke in transit, but thefett is as awesome as he is talented, and he’s fixed it. Fantastic!

No, I never land on Sundays. Sundays are boring.

No, I never land on Sundays. Sundays are boring. This may not be your typical ‘craft’ given the mass-production, but until Midnight (you hear that, Cinderella? TODAY until MIDNIGHT only! E.S.T.) you can order a most fantastic t-shirt from Tee Fury featuring the only thing out there scarier than Daleks and Cybermen combined: the Vashta Nerada. Ever jump at your own shadow? Chastise yourself for being silly over it? Well, don’t. If you haven’t seen this Doctor Who episode, you owe it to yourself. Just be prepared to never look at the darkness the same way. Ever. Again.

The design, appropriately titled “Count the Shadows” by Artist/Designer Jordan M Dalton is quoted in his Tee Fury interview saying:

I wanted to make a design for all the hardcore Doctor Who fans and make it something really specific, but also really cool looking for everyone else.

He was also kind enough to share the Doctor’s own words regarding these little terrors:

“Almost every species in the universe has an irrational fear of the dark. But they’re wrong, ’cause it’s not irrational. It’s Vashta Nerada. It’s what’s in the dark. It’s what’s always in the dark.”

Mr. Dalton, I do believe you overwhelmingly achieved the coveted balance between “geek” and “fraking awesome” with this design. Being a ‘hardcore’ whovian myself, I didn’t even need to read the banners to recognise the reference. That terrifying image is well emblazoned upon my memory, and your rendering of it is spot-on. Well done!

The t-shirt can be found only on 12 December 2010 in Eastern Time (that’s New York, NY USA time, folks) until 11:59 PM at:

Wendy posted this awesome TARDIS Star Quilt on her blog, the star quilting just makes this one! It is totally perfect for snuggling under while you watch the latest season of Doctor Who on DVD. Also, don’t forget to check out her TARDIShcloths, because they are adorable as their name!

DEVO Shirt Contest

For a very brief interruption to Renee’s awesome Doctor Who week, I wanted to mention that Woot is hosting a pretty rad DEVO band shirt contest right now! I’m partial to this Methane, Benzene, 1-Butane, Cyclohexane, DEVO design by dirtdirt, but there are dozens of cool entries to check out.

And the prizes are impressive, to say the least…

Our winning design will be hand-picked by DEVO themselves, with second place being chosen by our usual Derby voting and third place being selected by the editorial staff here at Shirt.Woot.

In addition to the usual Shirt.Woot payout, DEVO is upping the ante with fabulous prizes:

1st Place (as chosen by DEVO themselves)

– 2 tickets to a DEVO show of your choice in the upcoming Fall tour and a meet & greet with the band
– $1,000 spendin’ money (on top of the usual winning payout) courtesy of Shirt.Woot to help get you there and
back
– Signed DEVO merch
– Limited Edition 7-inch record
– Full DEVO discography on your choice of CD or vinyl
– One Jumpsuit, Energy Dome, and Glasses ensemble

Shirt entries have been closed but there’s still plenty of time to vote for your favorite, who will be the lucky second-place winner!
