Rushmore Lapel Pins

Rushmore Lapel Pins

I don’t know about you, but I’m super excited for Wes Anderson’s new film Moonrise Kingdom.  It all started with Rushmore, and it never really stopped.   Wes Anderson’s keen eye for nostalgia, anachronistic clothing choices, and his keen use of 60’s and 70’s folk songs in just the right places have firmly ensconced him in my heart.  I came across these on the old Etsy, lapel pins for perfect attendance and punctuality.  Too perfect.  The seller appropriately named SteveZissou also has some pretty awesome cuff links.

Red Shirt Syndrome!

Being active myself in historical reenactment for many years, the colder months were often spent at the sewing machine prepping for the upcoming events throughout the year. The same can be said for people who love attending Cons. Their creativity and ingenuity forever astounds me!

Working roughly off of a pattern and adapting on the fly, graverobbergirl on Craftster has made a great version of the original Star Trek costume! Even the hair and accessories show her dedication and attention to detail that are sure to make her stand out in the Con Crowd.

What makes graverobbergirl’s costume extra special is that she has planned for the inevitable. She has a patch to sew onto her costume when she finally (and inescapably) gets hit by the phaser aimed for a commanding officer!

Lovely lady k4tr1n4 has made an amazingAwesome Pac Man t-shirt new interactive t-shirt perfect for little boys and big boys alike! The little white dots are made of velcro and the super cute ghosts are made out of felt so they can be stuck and unstuck to your hearts content.

Alternatively, the girly girls out there might prefer a little cross stitch with their retro gaming… Craftster CaribouOnTheSea got a little carried away with her Pac Man scheme and made this wonderful and ‘punny’ project.

Serenity crew amigurumi

“Just focus! The Alliance said they were gonna waltz through Serenity Valley. And we choked ’em with those words. We’ve done the impossible, and that makes us mighty. Just a little while longer. Our angels are gonna be soaring overhead, raining fire on those arrogant Khags. So you hold. You hold! Go!”

Firefly Amigurumi crafts I do love me some Joss, especially in the form of Firefly and Serenity. So when I saw these fabulous Firefly amigurumi by Lucinda879 on Craftster, I just had to share. Aren’t they shiny?

Be sure to click through to check out more pics. I love how she combined crochet bodies with fabric clothing, and the finely detailed hair. And check out the realistic version of Vera, sitting quite cunningly on Jayne’s utility belt.

Paper Dolls by Breeyn McCarney and Christopher Lewis

LED-paper-dressI really love when something simple becomes something outrageous and astonishing–like Paper Dolls, the project by best friend pair Breeyn McCarney and Christopher Lewis. Breeyn took paper crafting to a wholly different building (forget a new level!) making these gorgeous, hand cut paper dresses. Then, because that wasn’t awesome enough, Chris rigged these babies up with LED lighting, and remote controls!

Now, all of that is pretty amazing, but stand by for the REALLY cool part. Tomorrow at 9pm EST, Bree and Chris will be on the web show Nat and Marie, showcasing these amazing dresses, and you (yes, YOU) can interact with the dresses from your browser or smart phone! High fashion, high tech, social networking…is there anything they can’t do?

So be sure to catch Paper Dolls on Nat and Marie tomorrow at 9pm EST, and watch Geek Crafts next week for the follow up interview with Breeyn and Chris! While you wait for the show, you absolutely MUST watch this video.

READER SUBMISSION: Dark Side Apron

star-wars-apronReader Shira e-mailed us to let us know about her amazing, crafty, friend, Laura and her blog Pretty Nerdy Things, and in that e-mail was a link to this particular blog entry, the perfect, homemade Dark Side Apron.

In my humble opinion, there is nothing better than a long running, well known, very geeky joke turned into an apron. It references “cookies” and you can bake cookies while wearing it, how cool is that? Allow me to answer that: it is very cool (but you should probably still wear oven mitts when handling your cookie sheets, a cool apron will not protect your hands from the heat of the oven).

Laura‘s blog has all manner of geekiness on it, including a nerd’s guide to dating and romance, R2D2 Cookies, and movie reviews!
