I can’t really say it any better than the original poster of this geekcraft – the perfect gift for “what to give the fan WHO has everything:” a Dr. Who TARDIS Snuggie.

How clever is this? Take a regular blue Snuggie, and, ahem, Doctor it up into a TARDIS. Love her tip for printing the “Public Telephone” verbiage onto a cotton panel then ironing it on.

DIY Ambilight: Because your TV isn’t big enough already

You’d think that a 55-inch, full-HD LCD television with surround sound system connected to an enormous media pc, XBox 360 and a PS3 would be enough for a man who actually mostly plays PC games in a different room and watches TV on his phone on the train trip to work. But you’d be wrong.

Dave of DaveNewson.com is the latest of major nerdy tinkerers to take on the DIY challenge of Ambilight – a TV enhancement where the colours from your TV are projected onto the wall behind it. There are some sane reasons for doing this – improved immersion and less eye-strain when watching in the dark being the main ones. But mostly, Dave did it because it looks “cool as hell”. Want your own Ambilight system? There are a few different ways of setting this up apparently, but essentially you will need a strip of colour-changing LEDs, a micro controller, a PC to play media from, a 5 volt power supply, a TV, and a way better understanding of electronics than me. 11th Doctor fingerless gloves
I love these 11th Doctor fingerless gloves by Bobbie from BobbieBomber on Tumblr. She was inspired by a picture of a crocheted phone cover she saw on Google, and I can see this would be great for that too. There is no pattern, but they appear similar to the Iron Man-Inspired Crocheted Gloves linked here a few months back. Bobbie is also happy to make them, and ship worldwide, if you send her an inbox through tumblr, (though no mention of price) so for those of you who are not crochet inclined, you don’t need to miss out.

If you were a child in the 80s, like me, odds are you caught an episode or two of Sesame Street, and have fond memories of the Martians. Especially the time they tried to talk to the telephone – that was my favourite. In fact, I answered my own children’s questions with “yup, yup, yup, yup” or “nope, nope, nope, nope” so many times that I had to look up old clips on YouTube, so the poor things knew what on earth I was going on about.

Dvortygirl on wikiHow has shared the totally free pattern to make these little guys. It’s fairly simple work, and if you are an expert crocheter, you can whip this up fast enough to have your own little army of them. But even if you are just beginning, don’t despair, because they only require single crochet stitches. They’d make great cat toys, kid toys, or even just a neat little decoration for your telephone table :D
