Floral Wars Glittery Star Wars Ballet Flats

16402619_1414907731882316_4104368000476612001_o

BenaeQuee of Brooklyn just posted these ballet flats on Craftster, and I lurv them!!

She took a pair of shoes she bought last year for another project and used her new Star Wars Floral Wars fabric on them. She also added fine holo glitter to give a little sparkle to this already fabulous fabric. The fabric is a cotton woven from Knitorious Fabric.

And such pretty fabric as it is! I love this project because of the sketched look to the fabric’s designs, it’s Star Wars-themed, and because while the shoes aren’t identical, they still match.

“The Walking Dead” Art Dolls

350811_26oct16_group_wm

I’ve posted about my love of “The Walking Dead” art dolls I’ve been as a travel the internet, and Nerdplusneedle has a new set of dolls to check out.

Ever since season six ended with the introduction of Negan, she started toying with the idea of making a few little art dolls. And little they turned out. Nerdplusneedle kept downsizing and downsizing her pattern because they just looked so cute being so small. They’re 8inches / 20cm tall, with a good portion of that total coming from their heads.

Initially, she thought to make them simple, but then she just kept adding…and adding..and adding. The zippers are real, but the zipper pulls were way too big for them (one was as big as Michonne’s whole vest) so she made teeny tiny ones out of craft foam. And why make plain shoes when you can give them itty bitty laces? With clay soles and added heels? Of course, she made real applique wings that are only a couple centimeters big.

Eyes have been painted and the facial hair is laid on by hand. She wasn’t happy with the painting entirely, but she’s recently purchased some tiny nail brushes so she can –hopefully– get cleaner lines on her next wee faces.

Upcycle Old Comics Into Cool Jewelry

ModPodge_bracelet

I got some great free comic books over the last year, and now that I’ve read them, I don’t have a burning desire to keep them.  But I hate to just throw them away.  I mean, the artwork is cool. So I turned to Pinterest for ideas on what to do with old comics, and ran across this great tutorial by Shala on Don’t Eat the Paste. You can make your own stylish, one-of-a-kind bracelet using old comics, Mod Podge, and a bracelet blank.  Shana’s got step-by-step instructions along with pictures that make creating this jewelry masterpiece a snap. Isn’t Mod Podge glorious? I’ve seen great examples of using comics on furniture, shoes, and even coasters.

Make Your Own Con Lanyard

Lanyard

It might be a little early to be thinking about convention season, at least for some people. Not me. I’ve got shows to sell my handmade goodies at lined up starting in February, and I just added another small con for the end of April.  Cons come in all shapes and sizes, but most of them have one thing in common: cheese-wheaty lanyards! Instead of settling for a shoestring with cheap lobster clasp, grab a scrap of your favorite fabric and make your own lanyard with my tutorial! It’s a super fast and easy project, and it’s perfect for busting through those fabric scraps you’ve been holding onto (they’ll come in handy someday!). What’s great about having your own lanyard is you can make it match your cosplay, and it’s washable!  See? It’s not too early to be getting ready for convention season!

More Cosplay From Figments & Filaments in KC

18thCenturyCoat

This is the last of Figments and Filaments, a new cosplay convention in KC.  They had several really awesome costumes on display, including this really well made 18th century suit (a cutaway coat, waistcoat, and breeches).  All you need are hose, heeled shoes with buckles, ribbons, and a wig.  Men knew how to dress in the 1700s.

These Hand-Painted Shorts Are Obviously The Droids I’m Looking For

shorts

Someday, all this cold weather will end and we’ll be blistering in the dog days of summer. This might be the best time to get started on hand painting your own astromech shorts. These R2-D2 shorts were painted by Areyna Schmidt , and her Facebook page shows more of her hand painted clothes and shoes. She’s a third year art studies major at ASU and she works seasonally at Walt Disney World as a character performer.
