“Always in motion is the future.”

–Yoda, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Good morning, fellow Craft Geeks! I’m AmyLynn98 and I get to join all of you as your new Saturday morning poster. I enjoy crochet (a lot of the kinds of crochet and sewn items I make tend to be toys for friends and family made from my own patterns), sewing and card making as my main crafts, and now I can show all of you the really creative and crafty people out there that share our love handmade goodies. My favorite item that I’d like to take a crack at myself are these awesome TARDIS Chuck Taylors!

Some of the “geek” things that currently turn me on are Spider-Man (Peter Parker), Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew), Batman, Star Wars, Star Trek (I called myself a Trekkie before Trek was cool, and was proud of it), Doctor Who (my Doctors are #1, #4 and #10), Stephen King (I have a dog named Cujo), “The Big Bang Theory,” “Face Off” on SyFy, Abraham Lincoln, the Terminator, and most anything Halloween-related (more about the holiday than the movies, but those were good too). My plans for Halloween this year is to make a Gonk droid for my yard, finish off my Jedi costume (I’m a DIY Jedi!) and fix my full size guillotine.

Since I have to act like an adult most times, I work as a volunteer coordinator for a local hospice. I was able to start sharing my love of all things yarny and crocheted with our patients by providing them with handmade blankets. Volunteers up and down the East Coast help me to make them, and they all rock for it!

See you all on Saturday mornings…after the good cartoons are over, of course! Last one to the TV is a rotten egg!

Everybody scream!

Nightmare Before Christmas shoes

It’s certainly showing my age to say that I remember the ads coming out during the September and October of my senior year of high school for The Nightmare Before Christmas and being so. very. excited.  I don’t recall a time before or since that I so eagerly anticipated a movie and had it live up to my exceptions so completely.

Obviously, lots of time has passed since then. Burton decided to make that horrible adaptation of Alice in Wonderland (>>shudder!<<) BUT… he’s got another movie (Frankenweenie) coming out this weekend and it is claymation and I’m going to give it a chance because it looks adorable and creepy and everything else I love about this time of year.

As an homage, I decided to post these really cute painted shoes, featuring the only lovable 2-faced politician and Jack and Sally during a moment of romance.

Check out Tracy Pierce’s page on Etsy to see more angles. Look out for Oogy Boogy!

Clone Wars shoes

Now this is my kind of party! After seeing a plethora of cool decoupaged shoes online, Amy Ratcliffe decided to host a “Nerd Shoe Craftacular” so she and her friends could try their hand at some of the projects. And pardon me for saying so, but I’d say the results are a SHOE-IN for geektastic delight.

A variety of geekdoms were represented, including Star Wars, Dr. Who, Game of Thrones, and comic book heroes, but I think my favorite project is this pair of Clone Wars pumps. Sublime.

Nerd + skirt = Sknert?

Guys, can we talk about what Ashley Mertz is doing over at Go Chase Rabbits? Because, it’s like…whoa.  Whoa, slow down Ashley because I can’t even keep up with all these cute skirts and I have so many questions:  Where is the fabric coming from?  How do you have the time to make all these? What shoes would I wear with the Yoshi skirt?

If Yoshi isn’t your speed, 1) What is the matter with you and 2) Ms. Mertz likely has your geek beat covered from Tardis skirts, Pokemon pettis, Star Wars, LoTR…even a periodic table mini-skirt.  It’s all there, it’s all cute.

Faerie Fashion

After being heavily involved with historical reenactment for 19 years, I can appreciate great costuming, both in the time spent in its creation and the money invested. Costuming done right is a labor of love. One of my favorite “fun” types of costuming has to be faeries. There are no set rules, just let your mind run free!

sairosaurus on Craftster has shared her faerie creations. What is even better is that as you read through this thread, not only do you get to see some fantastic photos but she goes into her creative process for several bits and pieces of her costumes. She discusses how she made her goblin shoes, a goblin latex mask as well as her faerie wings. Her work is amazing!
