One Does not Simply Quilt Mordor

One Does not Simply Quilt Mordor One must start at the beginning with The Hobbit.  Which is what Jennifer Ofenstein has done with Fandom in Stitches latest long-term project, There and Back Again.

Announced in August, it officially began with the first block’s pattern, Gandalf,  designed by Schenley Pilgram and posted on October 5, 2011 and subsequent patterns were and continue to be posted on the first Wednesday of each of the following 12 months. Also pictures is The Road designed by Lilja Björk Sigurdórsdóttir.

Haven’t started yet? Not a problem, each month, the links are there to previous patterns released for you to access and download to work on at your leisure. The project is a collaborative effort between four Fandom in Stitches designers, Michelle Thompson, Lilja Björk Sigurdórsdóttir, Schenley Pilgram, and Jennifer Ofenstein. One Does not Simply Quilt Mordor

Never done paper piecing before? Still not a problem as Jennifer has some wonderful tutorials to help you learn. So come along on a Hobbit’s quilted journey to there and back again!

Unicorn Poop Cookies

Unicorn Poop cookies

I tried to think of a clever title for this post, but really – why bother? They’re UNICORN. POOP. COOKIES. As soon as I saw them in a recent GeekChicDaily newsletter, I had to run right over here and share them. Then of course, I discovered teh Internets have already shared them just about everywhere, including i09, geekologie, GeeksAreSexy, The Mary Sue, and Laughing Squid. OK, so a scoop of geek-crafty news, this is not. A scoop of poop, however, it is. Sparkly, tasty poop.

Instructable-r KristyLynn put together a tutorial for creating your own steaming pile of unicorn poop…cookies, right in your own home.  According to her, the “poop” is made of sugar cookies, rainbow dragees, rainbow star sprinkles, white sparkle gel, and rainbow disco dust, but I think we GeekCrafters know it’s really made of rainbows, Lucky Charms, and fairy dust. Or perhaps you have a more imaginative ingredients list?

Also, while you eat your “mythically delicious” baked goods, you might want to wear this Unicorn Poop t-shirt from NeatoShop:

Quick and Practical Costume

Today is the big day (Halloween) so I am sure you have all got your costumes sorted for tonight.

If not, then don’t panic. Help is here in the form of  NoFiller from Instructables. She has made a quick and easy tutorial on how to make a practical and warm costume for a superhero, so no need to freeze to death in all that lycra.

She even includes a colour chart for different superheroes which is quite fun to play guess the super hero with.

Happy Halloween Geeks!

READER SUBMISSION: Love Brick by Brick

Lego ShipIf you love Legos, than there is only one place on the web you need to be. Or…rather, two places, as Love Brick by Brick is both an awesome blog full of tutorials on Lego jewelry and impossibly cool projects like the one pictured, but also a kickin’ Etsy shop where you can stock up on artfully made Lego jewelry.

And I promise I am not using “artfully made” generically, browsing Julia Morley‘s work was a surreal feeling, joining up the geeky child inside and the woman who loves cool, even beautiful jewelry, and reminding me they are both the same person.
