Name the Geek Contest

Name the Geek!Greetings Geeks! By now you’ve noticed our awesome new look and today we present our official Geek Crafts logo! (If you’re reading this in a blog reader, click through, just this once.)

Also today we launch our contest: Name the Geek! This geek needs a name and we’re leaving it up to you, our lovely readers, to decide.

Here’s how it will work:

  • Starting today and up until midnight ET on Sunday, May 29th, leave a comment with your name suggestion. (If more than one person suggests the same name, the first person to suggest it will be entered, so be sure to read through the comments first and come up with something different.)
  • On Monday, May 30th, we’ll post a list of all the names for you to vote on. You can vote until Sunday, June 5th.
  • On Monday, June 6th, we’ll announce the winning name. And to thank the reader who suggested the winning name, we have an epic prize package!

Pearler Peashooter

I have spent many hours playing Plants vs. Zombies so I have to suppress the urge to obtain lots of these little pearler peashooters to set up rows of them in my living room. Etsy user 8bitclassics (also littlemissysg on DeviantArt) made this little guy from their own fan art design pattern based on the Pop Cap game, and they have the Sunflower you are sure to need as well. Check out their shop for all sorts of pearler goodness, etched glasses, and some especially cute felted figures.

I think I can hold off only until spring. Then the snow will be gone and my garden gnome will be ready for his new army to defend against any zombie invasion!

Star Trek Serenity Prayer Cross Stitch

Star Trek Serenity PrayerWe’ve all had those days. You spill your full latte all over your new shirt. You miss your bus, and you’re late for work. Or maybe a race of cyber-zombies has taken over your planet.

It’s moments like that in which we seek a little inspiration…and this pimpin’ Locutus of Borg Serenity Prayer is there to remind us that indeed, resistance is futile.

This one-of-a-kind, Star Trek-inspired cross stitch was made by Emily and Matt Fitzpatrick, the wife-and-husband team behind Steotch.

Infusing classic New England needlework with pop and hip-hop culture references, Steotch is also responsible for such beauties as Bless This House and a Star Wars inspired version of the Serenity Prayer.

For you cross-stitchers, patterns are now being offered in their Etsy store, so you can make your own snarky Steotch creation.

SOAP!!

Soap Retro controller, Mountain Dew-type scentEveryone needs to get clean from time to time, and what better way to accomplish this than with a bar of soap shaped like an old-school NES controller?? Chrystal Doucette’s Digitalsoaps store on Etsy sells all kinds of gamer-shaped soaps: controllers for the NES, Xbox, and the Wii. There are even soaps shaped like actual games! Mortal Kombat II for the Sega, Zombies Ate My Neighbors for the SNES, and even a Space Invaders Atari cartridge (with little green pixelated invaders available for purchase as well!) Do yourself a favor and click around the shop–you’ll find many more geeky gamer soaps.
Perhaps what I find most charming about these soaps is that they are scented to smell like Mountain Dew! This is truly a seller who’s in touch with her geek consumer base. The soaps are even vegan.
