Futurama is one of my all time favorite shows. I even have a Mars University t-shirt. And yet I’m ashamed to say that I have never had a Futurama cake. After seeing these, I may have to change that when my birthday rolls around.
Brainslug Cupcakes
These were such a hit last year that they were reproduced for the cast and crew for the final script reading of Season 6. The brainslugs are gum paste, and the brains are grenadine flavored buttercream frosting.
I want this at my wedding! I love how detailed it is. I wouldn’t want to cut into it! It looks like the Planet Express logo is actually fondant, not painted on.
I love the New New York skyline on this one (from Edible Art Bakery). The back ground is painted on and the closer buildings are fondant. And the jetpack-wearing cat and dog from the pilot are on there!
These are gorgeous, and could go with any cupcake. The disks are fondant and edible marker (I have to get some!). Plus, there’s a tutorial!
I love that this birthday cake is actually Bender’s head, not just a picture of it. And it’s chocolate!
The bride and groom both love Futurama, so of course that’s what’s on their wedding cake. It even has Buggalo running around the bottom. No sign of the Wongs though.
These are really cute. The Nibbler one is my favorite (I love his eyestock). From Unicorn Magic Baking Company.
I think I might have to bake something tonight. Hmm…
Have a great weekend!
Craftster user glitter_is_good has a friend who works in a cupcake shop (I need a friend who works in a cupcake shop!!!) who asked her to make some artwork. Behold the cupcake monster!
Let’s get one thing out of the way, right now. I love cake. Cup cakes, wedding cakes, pancakes. Cake is good. In addition to being delicious, cake is a great medium for art. Yeah, I said it, I think amazingly decorated cakes are art–and it’s not just because I like eating art. Kristen made this Super Nintendo Cake out of red velvet (0ne of my favorites!) for her husband’s birthday. If you’ll believe it, it was her first try at a sculpted cake! Very well done, and I am sure, very delicious.
My friend Ruth Suehle is a super-talented costume designer, but just like her sewing and embellishment projects, her geeky cakes are amazing too. She posted a detailed tutorial for this Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy cake over on Geek Mom – very cool!
Craftster user mandys08 made this fab Lego Star Wars Princess Leia cake for her cousin’s birthday. She really got the facial expression from the video game down perfectly!
