Portal Wall Lamp

portal wall lamp

Ever wanted life to be as thrilling as a video game? You could start by making it look like a video game, right? Now, when I was young, becoming an astronaut was a more popular dream than becoming a test subject. However, dominator24 almost makes Aperture Laboratories seem like the place to be.

If you would like to know how this fusion between a lamp and a wall hanging was made, check out the details at this Instructables entry.

Last week, Jenny showed you how to use make sprites with hama and perler beads. This week, I’ll share a tutorial with you to do the same thing, but now with LEGO.

sherrycayheyhey created Mario sprite mosaics from small pieces of LEGO. She posted some highly-detailed directions at Instructables.

TARDIS Pinata

tardis pinata
It’s finally May, the sun is shining and every country seems to have some kind of holiday right now. Yes, it’s time for a festive craft!

Instructable’s Mostlymade shows us some heavily detailed instructions for a TARDIS pinata. For those of you who don’t want to break down anything that even remotely looks like a police box, the pinata comes with pull strings. However, if you’re sure the TARDIS doesn’t like you, feel free to use a baseball bat. Now, wouldn’t it be great if this one was bigger on the inside too? Imagine all the candy that could fit into it…

Harry Potter Chess Set

Harry Potter chess set

We are big Harry Potter fans at my house – my husband read every book out loud to us as a family, and of course we saw all the movies. Not only was it fantastic to see the stories played out on the big screen, but it was fun to watch the actors grow older with each new movie. And some surprises there – Neville Longbottom, anyone??

But I digress. Let’s get on with the geek-crafting sharing. I saw this Harry Potter Chess Set with fun matching bag on Mod Podge Rocks recently, and knew you all would want to see it too. Thankfully the original project is shared on Instructables, so you can conjure up your own magically strategic set, too!

Star Wars Boba Fett Lamp

boba-lampSo you’ve got your R2-D2 bra all made, but you’re still needing to make something else Star Wars related…what to make, what to make? If you’re feeling  like a simple craft and you’ve got a few things to upcycle, then the Boba Fett lamp might be right up your alley.

Major League Mods has posted a fairly simple tutorial over at Instructables on how to take a simple lamp base and a Boba Fett helmet and turn them into a new lamp. The nice thing about this tutorial, that while it uses a Boba Fett helmet, you could use any toy helmet: Darth Vader, any kind of trooper, maybe even an Iron Man helmet.

LEGO Brick Spice Rack

lego spice rack

Crafting can clutter your house in the wink of an eye. You can decorate a whole wall with all the perler beading I’ve done in my life! Our house is pretty tiny, and I’m sure my boyfriend will get grumpy if I start filling the kitchen cabinets with yarn and felt, so I’m always on the lookout for crafts that are both geeky and useful.

SHIFT! has posted an amazing tutorial over at Instructables that certainly fits the criteria! He fabricated a spice rack that looks like a gigantic red LEGO brick. His inspiration came from an image by Dave Delisle, who has a whole website full of geeky concept art and ideas called Dave’s Geeky Ideas.

On a side note, it’s theoretically possible to make a 3.5 kilometers (or 2.2 miles) high LEGO tower before the piece at the bottom collapses. Those bricks are strong!
