Zombie Flats

zombieflats

Using just markers, gel pens, nail polish, and a couple other items, troberts8 created these awesome zombie flats.  I think they’re adorable in a creepy sort of way, and they’re practical too (I think they just might confuse oncoming zombies into thinking you’re already dead).   While I don’t have the artistic ability to make them, I’m certain there are those of you out there who would be entirely able to paint zombie toes on shoes.  If you’re interest in making a pair, check out the instructions here.

Harry Potter House Points Necklace

harrypotterhousepointsnecklace

Whether you’re Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin, these necklaces will help you show off your house pride as you display all the points you have acquired during the year.  Ingulit created a tutorial for making your very own house points necklace on Instructables (you can find the tutorial here).  It looks relatively easy, and the result is super nifty.   You can make yourself a single necklace or go for the whole set.  (I say, go for the whole set!)

ProCRAFTinating: things to make at your desk

Another late night conference call, and another night where I’m trying to find something to do at my desk. Thankfully the internet has some great suggestions for things you can construct out of office supplies. Here’s a small round up of things I found this evening (links at the bottom). Happy procrastinating!

Light Saber Knitting Needles

It’s like a Saturday Star Wars two for one today!Random Canadian has posted intructions on how to make light saber knitting needles, over at Instructables.

The materials needed for this project include a 3/8″ Lucite rod, several key-chain LED flashlights, a red LED, a green LED, 2 X 10 Ohm resistor, heat shrink tubing,
120 sand paper, a Scotch-Brite pad, and a 10 Ohm resistor. It can’t be a terribly difficult project, as Random Canadian said another smaller set of needles were also made.

“The cyano glue makes the cut ends optically pure when the plastic bits are joined, as long as there are not big tool marks… I found this out on a previous project. saves quite a bit of time by not having to polish the ends.”

So the next time you find yourself battling the dark side of the yarn, or you just want to knit in the dark, whip up a set of these babies for all your nerd knitting needs!

DIY Live Long & Prosper Star Trek hoodie

DIY Live Long & Prosper Hoodie

In honor of the recent release of Star Trek: Into Darkness, I thought it fitting to share a Star Trek craft: a do-it-yourself Live Long & Prosper (LLAP) hoodie. My husband got a commercial version of this as a gift, so I thought it was clever that someone came up with their own DIY version.

Since it’s posted on Instructables.com, it includes a full tutorial of how to make it yourself. It involves making a stencil from a thin piece of wood, which I thought was interesting. I wonder if you couldn’t just use butcher/freezer paper?

So have you seen the new Trek movie? We went to the midnight viewing and loved it. Great story, action, and special effects. We’ll definitely be adding it to our Blu-Ray collection. What did you think?
