Star Trek Costumes from Trek in the Park

This summer Atomic Arts put on an amazing free play here in Portland:

Atomic Arts is presenting a LIVE free performance of the classic Star Trek episode “Amok Time” at the Woodlawn Park amphitheater. Witness Mr. Spock undergo the bizarre and brutal Vulcan marriage ritual of PON FARR as the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise attempt to save him before it’s too late!!

Portland actors, accompanied by live music and effects, will bring this classic piece of television to life! Spend a day in the park, bring a picnic and BOLDLY GO!!

The costumes and sets were all handmade — very inspiring, especially with Halloween around the corner! Here’s an ensemble photo by Igal Koshevoy:

We went to the final show, which was fantastic — and standing room only. Next summer they’ll be back with a new episode which was thrillingly previewed at the end of the show. If you’re in Portland or nearby, don’t miss it!

Geek Craft reader Alison Oddy submitted these adorable (albeit a bit random – I love random), knit Star Trek meerkats that she sells at www.folksy.com. She’ll knit up your very own meerkats (choose from Captain Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Scotty and Bones) complete with uniforms, gold emblems and accessories. She says,

“Beam me up an order, and I will boldly knit!”

Like The Next Generation better? Alison also makes a Captain Picard meerkat.

Perler beads are perfect for recreating 8-bit video game characters and scenes. They can be used for all kinds of amazing geeky crafts and are so easy to use, anyone can do it. Below you will find 10 incredible examples of the things you can do with Perler beads.

Faith9990 does it again with these little Space Invaders keychains. They aren’t attached yet, but if you look closely, you can see that a bead is purposely missing from each one to attach the keyring to.

I love the dimensional Perler bead crafts. Doctor Octoroc used what looks to be three layers of beads to make this Gameboy Color 3D.
