Wednesday Wolf’s Wonderful Watercolors


These paintings by Wednesday Wolf are amazing—dark and evocative and deceptively simple. They also really run the gamut of geekery, encompassing everything from Sackboy, the Ninja Turtles’ Michaelangelo, and Gir to Powerpuff Girls villain Him, Voldemort, and even Trogdor. And I’ve never seen such a menacing Pokedex or such a tragic depiction of Dr. Horrible. It’s hard to choose, but I think my personal favorite is the Alot. (You know the story of the Alot, right?)

I’m running out of wall space, but I may need one or more of these prints.

Greetings from another shiny, new blogger!

I’m Tonya, a high school foreign language teacher who has a serious love for all things geeky! I spend my day working with teenagers so when I come home in the afternoon, my absolute favorite thing to do to relax is kick back with my crafts in front of the TV watching sci fi or fantasy movies. I have a wonderful, crazy smart, computer programmer husband and two children who are being raised in true geek fashion who can already quote Harry Potter movies and identify mythological creatures.

I started crafting at the age of five when my grandmother taught me to embroider. (She was a firm believer in Idle hands being the Devil’s work and I was always into mischief!) Now, I also crochet, sew, stencil and cook as well as dabble in other mediums.

My nickname is Trouble (and rightfully so!) because I’m a high energy, creative and spontaneous sort of person. My students always stay awake in my classroom because they have no idea what I will do next. Being quirky and unpredictable is sort of a thrill for me.

As for my geeky side, I’m a big fan of Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Mythbusters, Lord of the Rings and old school 80s video games. I’ve only just recently started playing current video games as an adult. I LOVE Kirby’s Epic Yarn and all of the Mario games. I”m an avid reader and can read a series of books with great speed. I’ve read McAffrey, MZBradley, Tolkein, Rowling and T. Hatchett. I’m currently rereading the On a Pale Horse series by P. Anthony.

Visions of Sugarplums (& Electric Sheep)

With the holidays fast approaching, it’s understandable that we might all be getting a little excited, girls and bots alike. (Come on—you can’t tell me Data didn’t want to put Spot in a kitty-sized Santa hat.)

So here’s one for the robots in the crowd—or at least the robot aficionados—who want to deck the halls in a suitably festive fashion for this human holiday known as Christmas.

First up is a binary stocking, appreciated by androids and the technologically inclined alike. Oh, and if you’re multi-talented, you can knit one yourself with n2 Imaginations Design‘s pattern.

Next we’ve got a stocking by AnimationsDesigns that may outshine even Rudolph’s nose. Robots? Check. LEDs? Check. Awesome? Definitely check. And look at all the detail—each little robot is different.

If you want something a bit more understated than an illuminated stocking, My Imaginary Boyfriend has a slightly more traditional, rather rustic design (as rustic as robots get, I suppose).

And finally, I had to include this adorable stocking stuffer robot ornament from Sleepy Robot 13. I know, it’s not a stocking per se, but he’s holding one, so it kinda counts, right?

The Best-est Geek Art Ever

Okay, I know best-est isn’t a word, but it should be, because James Hance’s art is better than the best.  If you haven’t checked him out yet, go see James Hance,  Relentlessly Cheerful Art.  He has turned his geeky craft into fine art, showcasing our favorite Muppets and cartoons.

His series Wookie the Chew combines Star Wars and Winnie the Pooh, and features amazing characters like Chrisolo Robin, Droidlet, and of course, Wookie the Chew.

I have a few of his prints, and one of his originals in my house, and I LOVE them.  I’m still waiting for the Dr. Horrible/ Calvin and Hobbes cross over. (wink wink, nudge nudge.)

So check him out, and get inspired.

How about an amigurumi of wookie the chew? A parody of a parody. How great is that?
