Reader Submission: Bioshock Educational Posters

Geekcrafts reader Lauren, owner of Etsy shop theinkblot writes:

“I love anything and everything geek. I am completely obsessed with Bioshock (1 and 2) and I just love the concept and ideas of Rapture. In my free time I draw some of the “educational” posters found throughout the game. I have also drawn some of the Plasmid video stills (one can be found in the sold section of my etsy). I love your website and check it frequently, purchasing items from the artists you mention. It also gives me great ideas for my own geekcrafts! I love the website, please keep it up!”

I’m sure many of our readers are with you in the Bioshock love. I, however, am an absolute WIMP… and although I the love retro art peppered throughout the game, I become a snivelling nervous wreck when playing scary/atmospheric first person shooters.

I’m a Cookin’ Mama kind of girl.

Anime Girl Cross Stitch

I’m always amazed at the patience of cross stitchers. I did a small, simple robot photo booth cross stitch and it drove me crazy. So when I see something as big and gorgeous as this my mind boggles! The whole thing is 140 x 180 stitches, on 14 count cream Aida. HistoricalNeedle sewed this over a couple of months. She based it on an Anime style picture she found on the web (if you know who the original artist is, feel free to post it in the comments). HistoricalNeedle plans on getting a Gothic style frame made for it, so I can’t wait to see that!

Battle for Beauty Interactive Game Event!

battle-for-beautySometimes. the world just opens up for geeks. This is one of those times (or more accurately, Friday is one of those times) on Friday, June tenth, Battle for Beauty begins in Toronto, where real life players will use softballs to compete against online players everywhere.

I really feel like this is a time where I can use the word “epic” and not worry about summoning an LOLCat. Microsoft is hosting this mega-sized browser based party, to help “make the internet more beautiful”, players will do battle against such villains as “The Eternal Loadworm”. It is a geek’s dream, a LAN party on steriods!

Etsy Worldwide Craft Parties this Friday!

This Friday, June 10, is Etsy‘s birthday and to celebrate, they’re throwing a global Craft Party, with hundreds of events scheduled. Check to see what’s going on in your area!

Here in Portland, there are three Craft Parties planned, including one with a Quilts for Quake Survivors quilting bee I’m helping organize at the Museum of Contemporary Craft, which benefits Mercy Corps‘ relief work in Japan! I’d love to see you there for paper cutting, freestyle embroidery, mighty ugly crafts, or quilting with us (all supplies included along with six sewing machines, just show up). All the details are here and you can check out the worldwide Etsy Craft Party events here.
