The Shadow Hare

the-shadow-hare

I find it my geekly duty to inform any Geek Crafts readers that haven’t already heard, about The Shadow Hare. The Shadow Hare is a real-life Watchman in Cincinnati, OH. Not much is known of the Shadow Hare, other than that the Cincinnati PD is a little confused as to how to deal with this masked avenger who is patrolling their streets. After reading the initial article on TMZ, I did a little research and found a couple other news stories featuring The Shadow Hare and, of course, his myspace page.

If you’re not in Cincinnati, don’t fret. A little more research, and I discovered that there is an allegience of masked avengers (The Allegiance of Super Heroes)  patrolling the streets. There is a Mr. Extreme in San Diego, CA and Wall Creeper in Colorado, along with many others who stay organized through the web.

Now, they may have taken The Watchmen a little too seriously, or maybe they are really awesome dudes trying to fight crime…but it’s unusual, and very geeky. And since they make their own costumes, very crafty. I love it. Absolutely love it.

Twitter Cake (Twake?)

If you are a twit who can stop tweeting than the word “twake” probably doesn’t seem the least bit odd to you. Twitter is taking off in a big way, sparking debates about  it’s “importance” and it’s affect on society as a whole. More than that, it’s become a huge community full of people who are positively addicted to reading and posting updates that answer the simple question “What are you doing?”. Well what @GDruckman was doing was having a birthday! Thankfully Geri posted a picture of this awesome Twitter Cake made to celebrate said birthday on Natuba. Let the kids have The Little Mermaid, I want a Twake! (Of course this begs the question, if I make a cake for someone to cheer them up after being fired, should I feature the “Fail Whale” on it?).

An Easter Gift For Monk: Egg Cuber

I know this isn’t exactly a “craft” but this Egg Cuber from The Kitchen Store is just way too cool not to tell you about. Seriously, aside from the word “MONK!!” popping into my head as soon as I saw it, I also had visions of food-colored cubed eggs becoming Tetris pieces on a large platter for the Easter brunch I am planning, or a big cubed-egg Rubik’s Cube. Honestly, OCD or not, this is the most awesome invention you could own for $2.99 plus shipping.

I’d love to write more but I need to put my order in.

Scrabble Wedding Cake

scrabble-wedding-cake
Weddings are supposed to be all about the bride and groom, right? Well, if the bride and groom are total word-nerds then this awesome Scrabble Wedding Cake from Pink Cake Box is the most awesome cake around. Mrs. Hummingbird posted this, with a load of other Scrabulous wedding ideas at Weddingbee, and I’ll be honest, I am a bit inspired.

I love the freedom that comes with the modern wedding, a friend of mine had a little Dalek bride and groom hanging out on one of the tiers of his wedding cake, and other geek-themed weddings are popping up all over in pictures on the web.

The great thing is, even if wedding bells aren’t ringing in your near future, you can use the ideas at Weddingbee‘s Scrabble page to throw the best Scrabble themed party anyone has ever seen!
