Fashionable and Functional! A Supernatural DIY Skirt.

DevilsTrapSkirt

It may look like a simple and graphic geometric design, but there’s something really cool about this skirt: It’s actually a Devil’s Trap from the show Supernatural.

DevilsTrapSkirt02

What’s even cooler than this skirt? How about making your own? Blogger, Kat, from If Lies Were Cats You’d Be a Litter, has got a great step-by-step tutorial for making your own Devil’s Trap skirt.  The pictures are a little blurry, and the measurements are all in centimeters. However, the instructions are detailed and easy to follow.  Kat uses ribbon to decorate her skirt, but narrow, white bias tape might work just as well. If you’ve got a little sewing know-how already, then this project is perfect for you.  Besides, you never know when you might need to whip off your skirt and catch yourself a demon.  Woah.

Make Your Own Cosplay Fox Tail

DIY_Fox_Tail_Tutorial

That cool fox tail is made entirely from . . . . yarn! And all you need is a pet brush, a hair straightener, a pair of scissors, and (of course) yarn.  Just hop on over to Jennifer’s DIY Fox Tail Tutorial on her blog iSaveAtoZ and check out her detailed instructions and pictures. She uses the same technique for a Wolf Tail Tutorial as well. It seems to me this technique could be used for pony tails too!

It’s The Perfect Kitchen Accessory

DeadpoolKnifeBlock

When preparing your tacos and chimichangas, you’ve got to have the right tools on hand. Inspired by a French comic, Instructables user BrittLiv set out on a journey to build a knife block of their very own.  After a lot of trial and error, research, and more trial and error, BrittLive finally arrived at the delightful creation pictured above.  It was 3D printed in sections, assembled, coated in a special resin, and then painted.  BrittLiv has included all the files they created, along with a detailed narrative of their process, all on Instructables. If  you’ve got a 3D printer, a love for the merc-with-a-mouth, and a lot of perseverence, you too can create your very own Deadpool Knife Block.

Coffee In A Half Shell, Caffeine Power!

TMNTCoffeeCozy

With the latest movie hitting the box office, I went in search for some TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Tutorials) to share with you all! I found this cool coffee cozy knitting pattern on Ravelry, designed and posted by Strawberry Knits. The mask actually ties in back, and you can of course pick the color of your favorite turtle for your own ninja-powered coffee accessory.  You can download the pattern free, and there’s a simpler version where the mask is knitted as part of the body of the cozy instead of separately. You even have the option of downloading just the written pattern or a pattern and photo tutorial.  Have at it, knitting ninjas!

Make Your Own MLP Inspired Pegasus Wings!

PonyWings

I’ve been up to my eyeballs getting ready for Planet Comicon in KC, and something I’m introducing this year is MLP (My Little Pony) Inspired Pegasus Wings. This great video tutorial by Anonymous Woodsprite Cosplay Accessories got me started (though I used this awesome video tutorial as more of a jumping off point to my own version). The video tutorial is fantastic and takes you step-by-step through making your own pair of pegasus pony wings, starting with what materials to use and how to make your own pattern.  There’s even a bonus section at the end on making a matching pair of pony ears.  So, get your MLP cosplay on and make some awesome MLP Inspired Pegasus Wings of your own!
