Purple Tentacle Plushie

I’m really into making felt plushies at the moment. I’ve been surprised at how easy they are… well, compared with what I expected. This week I decided to take the plunge and try a Purple Tentacle from LucasArts’ Day of the Tentacle, and boy – am I pleased with how he turned out!

Purple Tentacle Plushie

And since I’m nice, I whipped up a pattern so that other people can recreate the little guy – check out the link below. Printed on A4 this will give you a tentacle that stands about 18 cm (7 inches) tall, but there’s nothing to stop you scaling this dude up!

Just don’t leave your 6-foot version unattended otherwise he might just try to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!

Dragon Dress

dragon dress

Pink Hickey on Craftster made this amazing, incredible, fantastic, dragon dress. She gave a tutorial on how to make it, tailored to yourself and all. I’ve had this pinned to my Clothing board for as long as I’ve had Pinterest, and the only thing stopping me from owning this dress is getting hold of the fabric – “Shibuki Dragon” The Alexander Henry Fabrics Collection 2007. An endeavour worth the effort, if her results are anything to go by!

The Girl Who Waited

Today, we have another project by SpeakGeekAndEnter, a regular poster over at Crafter. SGAE was last featured here in March 2013 for the Daryl Dixon plush from “The Walking Dead.” Today’s entry is Amy Pond, “The Girl Who Waited.”

‘I’ve been working to try and add in more details to my plushies — since most of my plushies are one of a kind dolls, I figure I might as well make them the very best, with as many details, as I can. I used silver metallic thread for her ‘zipper’ which I loveeeee. And bonus, I even got to use some of those “fancy” stitches on my machine that I never thought I’d use.”

And if you’re interested in getting your own Amy Pond doll, SGAE still has an Etsy store by the same name.

Bride Wears Dress Made From 10,000 Bread Tags

How about this project for the ultimate in recycling? And the best part is, is that her wedding dress is truly OOAK!

One bride in Australia wasn’t going to just walk down the aisle in any old thing. Using 10,000 bread tags she collected from friends and family, Stephanie Watson spent months creating her one-of-a-kind dress from recycled tags and hand-me-down fabrics.

“‘I always liked the idea of a design challenge and thought a wedding dress would be the ultimate test! Besides, when Will (my husband) and I started seeing each other we started collecting bread tags. We decided that when we had enough tags to make a wedding dress we would get married. Ten years later I felt it was time to give it a go,’ Watson wrote in an email.”

“The dress only cost Watson $38, since she used fabric salvaged from other garments and tags donated from family and friends. This doesn’t include the countless hours she spent planning and stitching, which she documented on her blog, Constructing Nadine.

“‘One of the tags I found had the name ‘Nadine’ printed on it. I thought it might be nice to give the gown a bit of personality by naming her, that way people would not have to ask me ‘How is the dress going?’ but rather ‘How is Nadine?” wrote Watson. ‘I later realised that Nadine is a variety of potato and the tag was probably used to close a bag of spuds! It makes sense as there are lots of potato farms in our area.'”

Chewbacca Domo

Chewbacca Domo

I think Chewbacca is one of the most misunderstood characters on Star Wars – probably because very few speak Wookie. Fortunately the pattern for this Chewbacca Domo appears very easy to understand, so with just a few snips and stitches you can have one for your very own. He even includes a video tutorial!

How cute would this look on your bed? I think it would make a great addition to a dorm room or geek den, too.
