Mario Mushroom Stencil Art How-To

Crafter extraordinaire Vickie Howell recently made this Game Boy stencil art piece for her son, who loves to play video games. She used a stencil from Ed Roth’s Stencil 101 Decor collection and freehanded the Mario image over it — she shares a complete tutorial for making your own version.

This isn’t Vickie’s first Mario-inspired craft project — check out her pattern and tutorial for knitting up a pair of Mario Mushroom Wrist Warmers as well!

Handknit Heroes

My favorite local yarn store, Twisted, posted about Stephanie Bryant’s Handknit Heroes recently and it sounds awesome!

From the Handknit Heroes site:

Imagine you’re a teenager, and you have some… special powers. Maybe even super powers. And one day, at a sleepover, your best friend in the whole world tells you—you’re not alone. So begins the adventure for a couple of teenagers, a single mom and yarn shop owner, and a whole bunch of hand knitted fun. Handknit Heroes is the first graphic novel for knitters. Each issue features a great storyline with knitting superheroes, terrific artwork, and a beautiful (and easy) knitting pattern.

Along with copies of the comic books, Twisted also carries the pattern to knit up these superhero goggles from the series.

You can order current and back issues here at the Handknit Heroes site, and check out action photos from Sock Summit over here!

Sharkattoque!

sharkattoque

It is Shark Week on Discovery Channel and that can only mean one thing, people who normally aren’t even interested in marine biology are going to be glued to the Discovery Channel to watch the MythBusters attempt to blow up a Jaws style great white muppet, crazy people “testing” shark cages, and just about any other dramatic thing Discovery can come up with involving sharks. In honor of one of the most popular weeks in educational television, here is Sharkattoque by SmakJamCreations on etsy. Not only is this awesome knitted hat really cool to look at, but it’s creator acutually found an amusing way to use to antiquated term “toque” (it basically means beanie), and the word nerd in me is ecstatic about that.

Knit Star Trek Meerkats

Knit Star Trek Meerkats

Edit: My bad! The Star Trek Meerkats are made by Heather Levers aka Nifty Knits. Alison Oddy was kind enough to submit the link.

Geek Craft reader Alison Oddy submitted these adorable (albeit a bit random – I love random), knit Star Trek meerkats that she sells at www.folksy.com. She’ll knit up your very own meerkats (choose from Captain Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Scotty and Bones) complete with uniforms, gold emblems and accessories. She says,

“Beam me up an order, and I will boldly knit!”

Like The Next Generation better? Alison also makes a Captain Picard meerkat.
